3D Tree Models For Forest Dynamics meeting (3DFDYN) 9-10th January 2020, Helsinki, Finland
(www.forestdynamics.fi/3dfdyn)
Laser scanning technologies are altering dramatically the availability of measurements about forest stand dynamics. It is possible to acquire detailed and precise 3D representations of individual trees in different phases of forest growth at low cost. Such data provides means to effectively monitor forests in 4D and offers prospects and challenges especially to models of forest dynamics that work at sub-crown level.
This meeting focuses on interaction of 3D forest models and laser scanning data. All aspects of this broad topic are suitable for the meeting. The topic of data bases and experiments for identification of 3D models will also be covered.
Themes and topics:
The programme includes presentations and poster sessions, also time for discussions will be allocated. The tentative sessions that may be modified according to submitted contributions are
- Dynamics of trees and forests as a result of 3D crown competition
- TLS and other data for validation of 3D and 4D forest models
- Model identification methods for 3D and 4D forest models
- Models based on 3D crown competition for forest management
Invited talks by
- Hans Pretzsch Technische Universität München
- Pasi Raumonen University of Tampere
- Aila Särkkä Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg
- Nikolay Strigul Washington State University
Paper submission:
Short (max 250 words) abstracts of oral or poster presentations are solicited. Deadline for the submissions is September 30. Submit your abstract either through the web site (www.forestdynamics.fi/3dfdyn) or send as a pdf file to abst...@forestdynamics.fi. Indicate please if you prefer an oral or a poster presentation. All abstracts will be reviewed by the Organizing Committee. Notifications of acceptance will go out October 31. All accepted abstracts will be published at the meeting site.
Registration:
Registration opens November 1.
Special issue of Annals of Botany:
All contributors to the meeting are invited to submit a full paper to a special issue of Annals of Botany. The papers will be reviewed according to the normal standards of the journal.
An Initiative of a TLS/QSM database:
We take here the opportunity to advertise an initiative to build a database for storing and sharing TLS and/or QSM data openly with the scientific community: http://forestdynamics.fi/database/. Planning is currently ongoing, and you can participate and help the process by participating in a survey. The results of the survey will be presented at the meeting and furthermore establishing database(s) in general for identification of models will be discussed.
