Dear Mr Ricky Tan,

I’m Nguyen Lan Huong, parent of Bui Thien Minh – Grade 5 and Bui Thien An – Grade 1 at SIS Da Nang.  I’m writing on behalf of parents of students to follow-up the matter of new school fees applied at SIS Da Nang.

In response to Ms Kim Thoa’s emails to you on 20 April and 9 May, we received the letter from Ms Lan, Branch Manager, dated 9 May.  However, we find that the response is unsatisfactory and the matter hasn’t been dealt with in a constructive and respectful manner which did upset the parents.

1.      We are aware that the current rate has been subsidized by the Company and an increase is understandable.  However, such increase must be in line with the level of education services that our children are receiving.  During the last four years, very minimum facility upgrade has been implemented at SIS Da Nang and the school curriculum has just been unified recently.  In the letter sent to all parents on 20 March, increased CPI in Vietnam and the assurance of continued excellence have been quoted but these reasons still cannot justify the tremendous increase (even up to 150% in certain programs, just compared to the regular Preferred Rate).

2.      When choosing to send our children to an international school, parents are aware of the budget required and willing to accept fee adjustments from time to time.  However, given the fact that SIS Da Nang hasn’t truly been operated at an international level as it should be or at similar conditions of other schools of KinderWorld Group in terms of school facilities and teaching quality, the proposed level of adjustment is considered in appropriate.

3.      Not only Ms Kim Thoa but many other parents have more than one child studying at SIS Da Nang and have been loyalty customers of SIS during the last few years.  An untimely outrageous increase would no doubt result a decline of re-enrollments as well new enrolments, given the current situation of Da Nang market.

With the hope that this matter can be solved in a constructive manner in consideration of the school’s financial expectation and an acceptable rate by most parents in the current situation, we would like to propose the following:

1.      An increase of 25% of school fees should be applied to all programs.

2.      Another fee adjustment should only be introduced when the school is upgraded to international standards at the new campus, hopefully by the end of 2012 as informed.

I also attached herewith the scanned copy of the petition which had been signed by parents before.  We hope the matter will be carefully considered and both parties can arrive at a compromise.

We would appreciate receiving your response by 20 May 2011.  Please kindly keep all the parents be informed by using the above SIS parents group mail address.

Kind regards,
