Sendmail is built in and the system will just send email based on DNS.

If your SIP Domain != your email domain, simply make sure your sipXcom server can resolve your MX records for your email domain.

From your sipXcom server you can issue the following command to ensure that your sipXcom server can resolve the MX record for your email domain:

dig -t mx emaildomain.com

You may need to trust your sipXcom server for sending mail...  depends how tight your rules are on accepting mail.

If you need to use a smarthost to relay mail there is a little more work to do.

Take a look here - if you use Gmail as your SMTP provider, then pay attention to gmail account security settings for third-party/mobile apps as they have recently changed.

Just as an FYI for the list, in case you don’t have control over MX records on a domain, I have had great success using smtp2go as an external smtp gateway, and use the smarthost configuration in sendmail.  It is very low cost, and very reliable.   And, no more hassles from other groups that can’t get things working when you need it.
