All,

Just wanted to wish everybody in this community a Happy New Year and give an update on our plans with sipXcom this year.

We are now well underway porting sipXcom to Rocky Linux 9. Unlike our previous 24.01 release for CentOS7, where we minimized necessary changes, we are now taking a more aggressive approach updating every subsystem and library dependency to recent versions. In order to effectively develop the platform we need to reduce technical debt, so we can just as well do the heavy lifting now since we in any case need to deal with a breaking OS change.

We are churning through corresponding code changes, such as updates of the Mongo DB C++ driver to 4.0.0. We try to minimize risk and refactor carefully, but I would in any case recommend a conservative approach upgrading your systems as and when we issue the first Rocky Linux 9 release. You can track our progress on the now default release-25.01-rocky9 branch at https://github.com/onrelay/sipxecs.

We do not anticipate making any further builds or updates for CentOS 7, but will of course test upgrades from CentOS7 to Rocky Linux 9. We learned some hard lessons about updating the PostgreSQL tables with 24.01, so we will be very careful with those now.

As for new features and functions, CRM and AI integration seems to be sensible areas to consider, in addition to omnichannel queuing and an updated messaging service (e.g. RocketChat?).

In this context I am discussing a potential sipXconserver service wrapping a standardized vCon / Conserver server with our initial angel investor Jeff Pulver. Many of you may know him from the VoIP space. Feedback and opinions are welcome as we are exploring supporting this IETF standardization effort.

Last, but not least, we have decided to take on board some support agreements for sipXcom following numerous requests, so please feel free to contact me if interested. We also appreciate any sponsors, which will be give preferential treatment when responding to issues or requests raised in this user group as well.

Exciting stuff Ivar!

When we were still working on enhancements we were considering both RocketChat and Matrix (matrix.org). RocketChat felt like the more mainstream choice.
