I am running 5.5.2 on my Polycom VVX phones and wanted to try 5.9 but having some issues with the phone taking the update.

I have the split update firmware on sipxcom server under 5.5.2 [that is the most recent that is allowed on the pull down menu].  The phone that I want to try it on is also on set to 5.5.2.  If I reboot the phone or send the profile, it is not picking up the new firmware.

What is the best way to accomplish this?

Thanks
Charles

Another related question... if I am creating a Phone Device File setting,  which phone firmware file version should I choose if it is more advanced?  For example,  if I am version 5.9 which supposedly works but in sipxcom, the latest version you can choose is 5.4.5_RP.  Would this make a difference in allowing the phone to see the file?

Hi Charles,

In the past, I’ve always just chosen the highest file version allowed, and then applied the version I want to use to that number.    Understand, there could be differences in the template for what you are applying verses the version of firmware you have applied.   It’s not been an issue for me in the past, but just be aware that it could be an issue, and be prepared to go back to a version that works for you.

I suspect the newer Polycom versions are in the latest releases – like 19.04, but I’ve yet to try those as of today.

Do you have issues with vvx500?

I have many Vvx500 with no issues.  Personally I run version 5.5.2.

If you look, you will see a lot of these new Polycom releases are for new phone models, and Lync related features.

The VVX500 has been a stable platform for years.

If you are using a particular VVX500 as your test phone, trying resetting the phone to factory defaults (hold down 1, 3, and 5 keys simultaneously for 3 seconds until the 'reset to factory defaults' menu appears, then enter phone password). If you are on release 5 firmware, then selecting 'the device file setting' assigned to the firmware level (e.g. 5.0.0) and matching it to the phone firmware level will update the test phone. I upgraded a VVX500 from 5.5.2 to 5.92 (Polycom-UC-Software-5.9.2-rts42-release-sig-split,zip) file without issue.

If you accidentally applied the combined image to the phone, and then try to overwrite with the split image, that will probably fail as the 500 SIP application executable is not loaded onto the phone for the combined image and the sip.ld file is different. The reset to factory defaults procedure clears out this issue.

If your phones are using presence or BLA capabilities, carefully read the release notes as Polycom has made release 5.9 enhancements around this capability.

All the best
Peter

Ok that works great.  Noticing the Enhanced BLF changes in 5.9 with the short and long key press behavior for monitored lines.  I assume that is not yet supported in sipxcom [creates features like 1-touch blind transfer and 1-touch park and retrieve]?
