My work experience as a wilderness and mountain guide spans the entire state, from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to Prince William Sound to Denali (Mount McKinley). I am the author of three photo books (Climb Denali, Yukon Quest, and Antarctica) and co-author of two photo books. As a public speaker, I have spoken at corporate events and my multimedia productions have been seen by thousands of visitors to Alaska. I am also leading a yacht-based photo expedition to Antarctica every year.
Redhead, wild Alaska sockeye, with its unmistakable color, is packed at the peak of flavor and nutrition, and ready to eat with just a squeeze of lemon. The soft, highly digestible skin and bones boost the flavor and omega-3 content, making it a superior lean protein ready to be added to many healthy recipes, and is perfect just straight out of the can!
This salmon (Redhead sockeye traditional) is exceptionally good. It's one of those foods that if you haven't tried it, it may not sound all that appealing; especially If you've ever tried the major national brand offerings , because they are indeed (by comparison) pretty bad. This is top quality and delicious. The difference is night and day.
I have ordered the Redhead salmon before and it is some of the best tasting salmon that I have ever eaten and I placed another order today and it didn't take them very long to ship my order out... great salmon at a great price and fast and FREE shipping.... can't beat that...Thank you Shirley....
I love your product, and that it seems to be from a small family business who has not sold out yet to a large multi-national company (unless I'm mistaken), nevertheless, it's a great tasting product that I feel good about eating. Keep up the good work of offering a superior product! God Bless you all, I will be ordering from you as long as I am able. Thank you, David and Karla
Everyone is surprised when I tell them that Alaska is wilder than Africa, but there are few places on earth where you can travel to more remote locations and lose yourself in the wild. During my recent exploration to Alaska, I had the privilege of re-discovering this wilderness and the wildlife of the Last Frontier. Embarking on a safari to Alaska is stepping into a region where nature reigns supreme, and the wild landscapes seem to stretch on forever.
Venturing further, the Kenai Fjords National Park treated me to an awe-inspiring marine spectacle. While I saw puffins, sea otters, seals, and other marine birds, there were three experiences that will stick with me forever. The first was during an evening walk up to the beach and being rewarded by a pod of humpback whales breaching across the bay for over an hour. To sit by myself in the late evening light of summer solstice, watching and listening to these whales seemingly enjoying themselves was incredible.
After the whales, I decided to walk further along the beach when I surprised a coyote that was hunting in the long grasses. She became very curios of what I was as I dropped to a knee to photograph her at eye level. When her investigation brought to within 15 feet of where I was kneeling, I decided it was close enough and politely let her know she was close enough.
Our Halibut is wild-caught in the pristine waters of Southeast Alaska, off Baranof Island, and size-selected to yield perfectly tender, flaky fillet servings for you to prepare at home. This light-eating fish is an elegant treat and one of the highest-value seafood items. Alaska Halibut is also a naturally lean fish that cooks up white, flaky, and loaded with protein. Enjoy this special delicacy!
Halibut is packed with vitamins and minerals such as phosphorus, vitamins B6 & B12, magnesium, Niacin, iron, zinc, vitamin A and Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help to reduce the risk of irregular heartbeat, lower triglyceride levels, and slow plaque growth in arteries. Halibut is also a great source of protein!
The best way to thaw our seafood is to remove the product from the original packaging, place it in a plastic bag, and allow it to thaw in the refrigerator for about 6 hours. If you require faster thawing, we recommend placing the product into a non-vacuum sealed bag and placing it in cool water for around thirty minutes to an hour.
Our individual seafood portions makes meal-prep a breeze. We've got tons of recipes, with new ones added weekly. Seafood carries so many health benefits like improved heart-health and boosted brain function. Eating healthy has never tasted so good!

According to the USDA, nearly nine out of every ten Americans are not eating the recommended amount of seafood. Nearly ninety percent of Americans are failing to cash in on the proven health benefits of seafood like reduced risk of heart attack and improved mental health.

Within the Wild is a curated collection of three Dixon family-owned Alaska properties. We own and operate Tutka Bay Lodge and sister businesses, the Danish Daughter Farm and La Baleine Cafe, all located in or near Homer, Alaska, within the Kachemak Bay region of Southcentral Alaska.
Just outside of Homer lies our Danish Daughter Farm, a verdant 40-acre flower farm, where pastoral beauty compliments the wildness of Tutka Bay. Tour the farm, meet Carl and Kirsten Dixon, and perhaps have lunch or a cooking class while there.
And on the Homer Spit, La Baleine Cafe offers rustic, harborside dining where every meal is grounded in our commitment to hospitality and local bounty. Consider this your base camp for exploring the vibrant artisan shops along the Homer Spit.
Together, these three facets of Within the Wild are bonded by a shared mission: to celebrate the abundance and beauty of Alaska, to share our love of our home with our guests, and to work toward the preservation and protection of wild places.
The service is extraordinary. Upon arrival, our personal experience guide met us at the dock. She was going to be with us for the five days we were there. She guided us on nature hikes, coordinated custom meals with the kitchen using native greens, went fishing with us, and was our guide for low tide exploring. The food is exceptional. The head chef, Nick, is skilled and creative in using native greens and local fish. Happy hour with wine and appetizers is amazing. You will gain a few pounds for sure. The view of the bay and surrounding mountains from our balcony was breathtaking. The activities are great. With the help of our experience guide, we went on nature hikes, kayaking in a glacier lake, hiking up to a waterfall, exploring tide pools during low tide, and fishing with local fisherman. We felt like part of the community!
Holy mackerel! I'ts going to be hard to reel in the superlatives here.My wife and I spent three incredible days and nights here recently - and we're already looking forward to our return. We've traveled extensively, but Tutka Bay is without equal in every regard - setting, facilities, equipment, service, cuisine, personnel, recreational opportunities. We are complete food snobs - but were nevertheless astounded by the culinary freaking GENIUS of the chefs at Tutka! And get a load of this - they actually overnight the best cheeses you've ever eaten (for "cocktail hour") from a gourmet cheese shop in New York!I can honestly say that we felt like honored and privileged members of the family at Tutka Bay, thanks to the incredibly friendly, articulate, well-educated, proactive, amazing staffers - more than two to every guest - who took exceptional care of us. All other superlatives aside, these folks are the heart and soul of Tutka Bay. (Thanks to all - you know who you are!)This place is not inexpensive, but it's worth every dollar. If you can afford Tutka Bay, don't hesitate - this will be one of the most memorable and wonderful experiences of your life! We will most definitely return.

Roses of several varieties are native to or naturalized in Alaska, and you can find them growing wild across much of the state. The most common are the Arctic rose (rosa acicularis) up north, Nootka rose or wild rose (rosa nutkana) in coastal areas, and the Sitka rose, a variety of rosa rugosa that was introduced to Southeast Alaska in the early 20th century. You can tell the Sitka rose easily after the hips form because they are big and round, tomato-like. Other wild varieties have smaller grape-like rosehips.
