I have set up GV to ring my Gizmo account. This works fine when my PC
application is open. As far as I know, if my Gizmo desktop app is off,
and I have Sipdroid registered on my G1, then it should ring. However,
it does not. Am I doing something wrong???

Thanks for any suggestions!

Assuming that you are using the official Google Voice application, and
not the Google Voice website or the GV application by Evan Charlton,
your phone will not ring. The official Google Voice application uses
a dial-out approach (i.e. it automates the process of calling your
Google Voice number and entering the phone number you want to call).

What you need a call back approach, which thankfully the GV
application by Evan Charlton (and the Google Voice website for that
matter) provides. After installation, you need to select "Call Back"
as the "Calling Method" in GV's settings. You can leave the offical
Google Voice application installed (e.g. to view voicemail) as long as
you change your settings so that it is not automatically used when you
dial.

I have no idea why Google did not add such an option to their
application. Even if they failed to think of VOIP applications, one
would think they would include it since some carriers offer incoming
calls for free.

Thanks for your answer but I don't think you understand my problem. My problem is not with Google voice but the Gizmo Number (aka Sipdroid) that I have it routed to. It will not ring. Hower, the desktop gizmo application rings without problem when someone calls. I have a Skype account which I use to test all these calls.

So, all this leads me to believe that it is sipdroid that is having problems receiving my call or google voice to sipdroid. Another reason why I think it's sipdroid that's having problems is because a few versions back, Sipdroid did ring but I could never answer it because there was no way that I could get the dial pad to open to press 1 to take the call so I dropped it for awhile....

Are you using pbxes.org? That seems to be the only way to get
incoming calls to work. I could get it to register by entering my
Gizmo5 information directly into Sipdroid, but no calls would go
through.
