Asterisk and video calls

reject video calls.

Can someone please elaborate on that? Does Asterisk itself reject video
calls? If so, for what reason? Or is it just that the guide only
concerns audio?

Hi Nolan,

As far as I know, Asterisk does not support the VP8 video codec that WebRTC endpoints are required to support.  We have not yet tested Asterisk with H.264, now that Firefox includes Open H.264.  Video calls with Asterisk *may* be possible, although we have not personally experimented with it.

Are there any community members out there using Asterisk for video?

I have tested sipjs with asterisk, audio works fine and I did not get video working. I am using OPUS + VP8 patch and tested with 11.3, 12.5 versions

How did you do your testing?

I see that 12+ only does VP8/Opus in passthrough mode, which I assume
means both ends of the call need to support it. From this I conclude
that browser-to-browser video might work, but an echo test wouldn't. In
my case the echo test didn't echo video, but I haven't set up the
infrastructure to test browser-to-browser yet.

In any case, looks like I'm jumping ship to Kamailio for the next round
of testing. Hopefully I'll have better luck.

I was able to get video working through asterisk and SIP.js. Although, I do have some issues with mine, it does work from browser to Linphone or browser to browser.

Here are some instructions on how I set it up. I'll be updating soon now that Asterisk 13 was released last week.
