Has it ever happened to you, while you were transferring a big amount of information from one directory to another, that the transference was cancelled? Windows file transfer manager has this kind of problem often, but you won't have to worry anymore with this new application.
I was a big fan of teracopy but because of some problems, I stop using it and use a software called gs richcopy 360, it can handle long path names, copy open files, can copy only the changes that happ...
TeraCopy is crap. Why? Because it fragments the files, even if copied to a blank, freshly formatted hdd. I compared it to UltraCopier, GS RichCopy 360 and KillCopy. These programs do not unnecessarily...
It is good to have this tool since the large file copy is done in a minimum of time, and especially when you copy from a server to another unit, compared to in Windows Explorer, it is done in a quarte...
Uptodown is a multi-platform app store specialized in Android. Our goal is to provide free and open access to a large catalog of apps without restrictions, while providing a legal distribution platform accessible from any browser, and also through its official native app.
TeraCopy lets you copy or move files at the maximum possible speed. It uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times, as well as asynchronous copy to speed up file transfers between two physical hard drives. When an error is encountered during copying/moving, TeraCopy will automatically retry and skip the files that cannot be transferred instead of aborting the entire operation. It also shows failed file transfers and lets you recopy only problem files.
Once the destination directory is selected, files can be dragged-and-dropped onto the window, even while a transfer is in progress. Once files are transferred, the Verify option uses a hash check to see if files are identical.
Note that a Pro version of the program is available with additional features.
I've was able to copy about 10 GB of files from an aging and extremely noisy and slow hard drive via a USB adapter -- Would have gotten a head ache had I copied from windows explorer, or tried to. PS. 0/42 flagged by virus total, it's clean. PSS. Development seems to have slowed down but there's a beta floating that adds some features / fixes some issues...some other tools are better than TC like gsrichcopy 360/fast copy/robocopy
finiderire: "why not providing the program as a Zip file already "prepared" ?"
We are just listing this; we didn't develop it. Feel free to contact the developer at the "website" link and ask. The method that we have is a trick that enables portability on a great many terrific apps. Please see the site FAQ.
@ finiderire: The word 'extract' at the 'How to extract:' is a link to an application called 'Universal Extractor'.
Use this to extract the installer file and follow the rest of the 'How to extract' instructions.
How can i set TeraCopy is default copy program instead of windows explorer? In application folder there is one reg file DefaultHandler.reg but if i open the file and add the registry value to the registry it still doesn't change to default copy program.
You can also just run Inno Unpacker on it directly. Grab it here: And just place innounp.exe and terracopy.exe in the same directory and run innounp.exe -x terracopy.exe from the command line. That's all Universal Extractor is doing under the hood after it figures out what kind of installer it is.
TerraCopy can only be opened with one of the unofficially updated Universal Extractors. Either the one Lupo did or the illegally updated one that didn't release the source code will work as they include the updated InnoUnp.exe. It won't work with Universal Extractor 1.6.1 base version or 7-Zip.
@Peter202: if you use Universal Extractor (RTFM, please), TeraCopy.exe is located inside the app folder in extracted path; you can create the new folder wherever you prefer, and give it whichever name you like, as long as you remember those and it works -- that's the beauty of portable.
@ Midas: I still hope that in a never version TC will return to the previous default behavior, if not I will just continue using it as freeware
@ joby_toss: You are probably right mate but they are so bloody unresponsive
As of v2.3 (despite I use it in the portable mode) TeraCopy stores its license in the user's appdata folder... Can anybody suggest a way to force TeraCopy to store its license in the same directory where TeraCopy.exe is run from (just as it was in previous versions)?
Despite it is a beta I have been using v2.3 (now at beta 2) for a while and I found it to be very stable and reliable.
Over a year ago I have requested the developer to introduce a specific feature and since it has been (finally) implemented in v2.3 I prefer to avoid previous versions... I just do not understand why they changed the location where the license is stored from the application folder to the AppData folder!

And it doesn't even work very well. I set it to move a lot of files from A to B and when it said it was "finished" most of the files were still left on A so I had to return to using damn Explorer - tsk tsk.
i love the context menu option of this program, the only way to get it integrated into the shell is to use one of the portable explorer replacements. i'm sorry i can't remember which one but it's one that's on portableapps.com
I'm not sure if the info posted on TeraCopy (How To Extract) is dated but the latest version 2.12 is an Inno setup and not a self extracting exe. The last version stated as portable is 2.05 which I can't even find the download link, I just downloaded it a month ago but it looks to have been taken down.
Regardless, TeraCopy is an excellent app for anyone who moves files on a regular basis, and wants the added benefit of speed and verification of a successful move (or copy).
It might be possible to add portable context menus with PowerPro portable. It has the ability to add things to the windows explorer menu. Another alternative might be to temporarily add a registy entry to the * for all files, and then delete the key on removal of the drive. You can do this with PowerPro. I use Powerpro to add a reg key to open all files with Notepad2, and then when I close my powerpro, the reg key is deleted.
Out of 41 virus scanners, 6 came up with heuristically detected positives (oddly, AVG WASN'T on the list when I checked). This is a little higher than normal for false positive detections, but still very indicative of a false positive. However, this isn't that odd for a program like this: it bypasses standard system file copy routines and uses other various tricks to achieve as good of file copying speed as possible.
Ignoring that intelligent malware doesn't use tricks like this because it will get them caught, I can't stress enough that knowing how to evaluate anti-virus detections is more important than actually using an anti-virus/malware scanner.
This program isn't malicious and it isn't ''infected'' with anything.
Weighing in on the AVG detection of a virus in the portable version, AVG did report an infection as well as Drive Sentry reporting suspicious activity and virus behavior. I'd have to recommend that this product not be downloaded or installed.
Personally, I've found AVG to be one of the most paranoid and false-positive-heavy AV scanners in existence.
FastCopy is a smaller alternative to TeraCopy.
TeraCopy's basically the gold standard in this category however.
Lifehacker LOVES this program and I can see why.
"Heur" means a "heuristic" virus detection, or a possible detection, not something based on a documented virus. If you Google it, you'll see that it probably has something to do with the SHDOCVW.DLL call.
Anyway the program comes up clean on both ClamWin and Comodo AV, which are usually much more paranoid than AVG (see MailPV and Produkey).
I wasn't sure which one to download so I picked the "portable" version. AVG has warned me that teracopy is infected. Surely a false positive, but I seldom have this happen. There's the off chance that the file has actually been infected, but I doubt it. I'm updating as of now to see if this remedies the situation.
This is one of the few programs I keep on my flash drive in my _sys_exts folder. I install this on almost every computer i touch. I'm almost 100% portable with this as one of the VERY few exceptions. It's invaluable for moving large groups of files and the shell context menu integration is a must.
I've not toyed with portable shell integration. i use cafe to do all my file launching. Any suggestions on how to get the context function portable would be appreciated.
