I started downloading BF1 this afternoon, but the download speeds are SO BAD, I am using EA Desktop by the way. Origin does the same. I have a 25mbps connection(3MB/S), I dont know WHY but the speeds fluctuate from 1,50MB/s(megabytes, not megabits) to 2,60MB/s Other apps download fine at full speed but EA Desktop is like, no. And yes, i have closed apps that may be downloading. I also checked my wifi router, and saw no data usage from other devices. Help ME PLEASE!
It might be a program running in the background causing the download to slow down. Can you try a clean boot and then immediately launch EA Desktop as administrator? Let me know if you see any changes.
Not sure why this new launcher has the exact same problems as Origin. I thought it was supposed to be an upgrade not a sidestep. On steam/epic/uplay you name it I get 30-45mb/s. "EA Desktop" caps at 8.0 and inconsistently at that. Just a shockingly, confusing shame as to why this is a problem.

My Ally will not download any faster than 11.5MB/s and I cannot figure out why or fix it. Every other device connected to my network is downloading at nearly 100MB/s so I know it's not a network issue. I'm not downloading to an SD card either, I'm using the internal SSD. I've played with settings and made sure nothing is limiting or throttling download speeds. I'm baffled. The speed is so slow that if I'm downloading a game I can barely get a website to load.
Have you tried performing an EC reset to see if it improves the situation? (Please shut down the device, remove the power cord and any external peripherals, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds before restarting and testing.)
I know the difference between megabytes and megabits. Regardless of the capitalized B I am referring to Megabytes. My Ally downloads only a 11.5 Megabytes per second or slower everywhere, not just steam. Xbox, browsers, epic launcher, everything. I am using Google Nest WiFi, model H2D, software version 14150.376.32, and connected to it on 5GHz, unfortunately Googles Home app that controls the wifi does not provide the firmware version. But like I said, I don't think its the router. Today I took the unit to a friends house, connected it to his wifi, and the download speed was still incredibly slow. I am not entirely sure the problem is with the driver either, today I connected a NetGear usb wifi adapter to the Ally and disabled the built-in wifi, unfortunately that did not increase the download speed. So now I'm left to wonder if Windows may be doing something to limit the bandwidth. This just keeps getting more and more perplexing as I go lol
I fixed it. I did two things so I'm not sure which one did the trick. Even tho I don't even have a microSD card installed I decided to download the driver from the support site and install it, then before restarting for the driver install I changed the wireless adapter from 802.11ax to 802.11ac for the 5GHz band. I restarted the device and went to download a game, much to my surprise it took right off and as I type this it is downloading at 90.3 Megabytes a second and showing no sign of slowing down.
Okay this is really getting frustrating now. This morning when I turned on my Ally my download speeds were back down to 11 Megabytes. I checked and it was still set to 802.11ac but my download speed is still in the toilet. I'm going to keep playing around and see if I can get anything done with it.
Okay. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the driver, tried the driver from March, played with the 802.11 settings on both, set them to broadcast on specific bands, I've basically gone through every permutation of possible configurations available to the driver and so far I am unable to recreate the download speed increase I was able to produce last night by simply changing the driver to 802.11ac. But the fact that I was able to increase my speeds at all totally verifies that this is a driver issue and nothing more than that. Simply put, I did not pay $700 for this kind of subpar network performance and I hope ASUS is working with MediaTek to resolve this swiftly. Also worth mentioning is something I noticed in my Device Manager, the current driver seems to be experiencing issues with the WAN Miniport (IP) I'll attach screenshots below. This issue did go away when I changed to the driver from March, and it went away when I changed the adapter to 802.11ac last night but today its not going away with that change so I'm thinking that is where the problem may ultimately be.
Downloading a visual studio update from microsoft sitting at 50-100MB/s, unpausing a download in the epic launcher immediately drops download rate on both apps to the same 4-6MB/s. Hitting pause again and visual studio download rate jumps back to normal as if nothing happened. (This behaviour can also be resolved again but turning on a vpn, then both download at the limit of my real internet speed).
No problems at all. I can confirm I get full unthrottled speeds in steam/Epic/Rockstar/Battlenet etc on Fibre 500. Even yesterday there was a 57GB update for Cold war and that finished in no time in the background while I was browsing. No VPN was used.
