Chips And Dale

Giventheir love of nuts, I knew the base of these cookies had to be peanut butter. Since Chip and Dale are often distinguished by their noses, I used a mix of peanut butter chips and milk chocolate chips to make Chip, and a mix of peanut butter chips and red mini M&Ms for Dale.

Chip 'n' Dale are two fictional, animated chipmunks. They were made by The Walt Disney Company. Their names are a pun from the name "Chippendale" (see Thomas Chippendale). Chip has a black nose, one tooth, and smooth short hair on his head. Dale has a red nose, two teeth, and ruffled hair. They like peanuts and apples. Chip is a reliable character. Dale is an easygoing character.

In 1989, Chip and Dale starred in an animated series Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. In the series, they formed a detective agency with three new characters. There were 65 episodes aired over three seasons. Their personalities changed a bit for the series. Instead of causing trouble, in the series they fought crime and helped the less fortunate. Chip was the responsible, no-nonsense leader who wore a leather jacket and fedora. Dale was goofy, laid-back, and wore a Hawaiian shirt.

I was thinking about sewing the jumper from scratch until I found this bear onesie online and it was perfect! I just needed to sew on a tail on the back and a chip n dale face on the hood. I had some paper from Ikea that my boys draw on and used it to trace the jumper. After I traced the jumper I hand drew the tail to make a template for sewing. I had to look at the Chip n dale characters from Disneyland to get an idea for the tail. I made a template for the white part of the tail and the black part.

I went to Joanns and found some Anit pill plush fleece for the tail. I used my hand drawn templates to cut the fleece out and my mother in law helped sew in on the back of the jumper. I also drew the template extra long for the tail to hang off the bottom.

For the chip n dale rescue rangers costume face I used felt fabric sheets. I brought the jumper with me into the store to best match the colors. I found a template online and enlarged it and printed it off as a template (see below). I traced the felt fabric and sewed the pieces on to start making the chip n dale face. I cut the ears off the hood and then sewed the felt chip n dale face onto the hood of the jumper.

For the chip n dale rescue rangers costume accessories I had to do some searching. My friend actually had this dale shirt that I borrowed, but you can find red Hawaiian shirts on amazon that would work just as well. For chip I just needed to find a hat and leather jacket. I ended up finding the perfect ones and linked them below.

My boys have been obsessed with Chip n Dale ever since we went to Disneyland in June so I thought it would be fun to do the Chip N dale rescue rangers costume for our family costume this year. I love how it turned out and they have loved wearing their costumes around the house. We also wore these costumes to the Disney World not so scary halloween party and everyone loved it as well!
