Windows 10 doesn't know the difference. Even when you follow the path to find a different app, Windows believes that since the filename is the same, there was no difference in path. So, it is still opening with Freedom.

So, let me modify my question now. Will Autodesk perform the task of simply changing the name of the executable for each of the versions of Navisworks? (Freedom, Manage, Simulate...) That way, Windows will go to the desired app.

1. Using Windows Explorer browse to any NWD file in your system
2. Select the NWD file then right click on it
3. From the context menu that appears choose "Open With > Choose default program..."
4. In the "Open with" dialog box, select the Navisworks application icon that you would like the file type to be opened with
5. Make sure the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" option is selected
6. Click on OK

As for the "open with"... yes, that was standard operating procedure. For some reason Windows does not understand that it is a different app. I have a couple operating theories. But I'm not sure which is the answer.

2. Because of the additional parameters required for Manage (and the same thing happens with Simulate) it still diverts it to Freedom and will not open Manage. By "additional parameters" note the properties of the desktop shortcut and look at the "Target". You'll notice additional text outside the "quoted path".

It's my understanding that generally Autodesk does not recommend opening files directly out of Windows File Explorer, double-clicking on an .nwc, .nwd, or .nwf file. Best practice is to launch Navisworks Manage first. Then open any files from within Navisworks.

What I've resorted to is simply not having freedom on my computer at all. That works in my home office. But when I'm at the main office, there are sometimes license issues that make Freedom necessary. So, it's not an option there.

There is a solution for this. You have a rename the Roamer.exe for navkswork freedom (i.e. roamer1.exe). Then you change in properties Windows the default app (in this case the roamer.exe located in navkswork manage installation path).

Renaming worked, but does it NEED to be renamed back to roamer.exe from roamer1.exe? Just curious if you left it roamer1.exe, would everything still work fine and dandy? I have not renamed it back to roamer.exe and have not heard from the user of any other errors. It appears that the user launches his *.NWD files straight from file explorer hence the need to open directly with the preferred application version. thanks for any feedback or reply.

The Navisworks Coordination Issues Add-In with Navisworks 2024 further extends connection to the Autodesk Construction Cloud, now providing cloud managed Navisworks data enabling multi-user participation on desktop. Save and edit Model Coordination aggregated Views directly from Navisworks. Automatic NWF management facilitates multi-Navisworks user workflows and includes Navisworks-data merging.

The Model Coordination app with the Autodesk construction Cloud enables creation of coordination spaces with the auto-clash process disabled, benefiting Navisworks users utilizing Clash Detective. These spaces provide direct access to latest model versions published to Autodesk Docs.

Constant issue even before the latest update. The ACC issues are not showing. Each time it take 15mins to reload navis (due to over 370 models on this project), this is now affecting the modelling production and clash checking.

1 - Currently, you must select the clashes, then right-click to create issues from clashes. It would be great to create batch issues across multiple clash tests, e.g. from all new, or all active, etc. If so, the BIM Coordinator could go quickly through the clashes to filter out the false positive, then, at the end of the process, create all the clashes from the new or active ones. It would be great to have a panel where assigning an issue template for each clash test. That would incredibly speed up the process, as common workflows define the clash tests so that all the clashes in that specific clash test are assigned to the first model.

2. It is critical to create a clash-issues synch feature, so all the clashes geometrically resolved can be automatically marked as closed (or assigned a parameter, should the BIM Coordinator want absolute control on closing them). Manually closing issues is a very tedious process, and should be left for "custom" issues created by project memebers, not by Navisworks.

100% behind your comment. There is minimum integration with issues and clashes- which is what model coordination is for...how was this missed? And Issue pins XYZ or basic clash report exports are lacking in model coordination. If it is supposed to be Navis replacement for those who do not have the software, at least provide the basic clash features and ability to save tests and export results properly. Max The limit of 100 issues published from clashes is relatively low, and should be increased up to 500 minimum.

The plug in Locks up all sessions of Navis Manage now. In other words if one session is locked up (refreshing files or appending files, even Upating clash test), all open sessions will lock up until refresh or append is completed. Please help.

It would have been nice to have a "next issue" button when you have an issue open so that you don't have to scroll down the list to find the next issue. It would also have been good to have an option to move the pushpins if they are in the wrong position.
