GettingStarted Guide - this guide has all the basics! Information on how to setup the Echo360 link in your Canvas course, how to upload videos, and how to manage your content in Echo360.
In addition to capturing lectures in select classrooms across campus, Echo360 offers instructors a storage location for their video content. With the Zoom integration, recordings from Zoom can quickly be shared with classes. Echo360 supports basic video editing functionality, generates automated transcripts, and provides view analytics.
As for playback, Echo360 offers as variable-speed playback, quality controls, and supports captions. There are also interactive tools for students, such as note-taking, Q&A, and the confusion flag.
The final piece of Echo360 is Universal Capture. Universal Capture allows instructors to create voice, camera, and screen recordings from their own computer. These captures can then be shared directly with users or published into a Canvas course.
Echo360 is mainly used for lecture capture in classrooms around campus that are equipped with recording equipment. Once a lecture has been recorded, it is uploaded to Echo360 and becomes available to everyone enrolled in the class via Canvas. From there, students use the recordings to study, revisit confusing concepts, and complete their notes. Echo360 offers unique features for collaboration, such as time-stamped discussions and a Q&A tool, which allows instructors and students to connect over video content.
Faculty also utilize Echo360 as a video storage option by uploading their videos to Echo360. These videos can then be linked to or pulled directly into Canvas courses. This has been used with great success for flipped classrooms; for example, an instructor has created 100+ micro-learning videos to use throughout the semester. Echo360 hosts all of these videos and lets students access them straight from Canvas, making it easy to find exactly what they need.
Echo360's Universal Capture software is also used at CWRU, particularly for make-up lectures, guest speakers, and recording things on screen (such as PowerPoints). Any time a quick video needs to be made, Universal Capture is a great option! It records your computer screen, video camera, and microphone into one complete video. From there, the video can be uploaded to Echo360 and made available to your viewers.
There is also an integration between Zoom and Echo360, that automatically uploads Zoom cloud recordings into your Echo360 account. This makes it easy to store recordings for longer than the default 180 days in Zoom, while also making it a breeze to share recordings with your class.
While we strive to create Echo360 courses for each semester before the semester begins, instructors may wish to work in Echo360 before their Echo360 course has been created; currently, instructors cannot create new courses in Echo360. Please contact us at
ech...@case.edu or
he...@case.edu for this initial setup.
To record your own content to host on Echo360, you'll just need your CWRU Network ID and password to login. To record content to host on Echo360 and share in Canvas, you'll need an Echo360 course created. Please contact us at
ech...@case.edu or
he...@case.edu if you don't see the course you would like to use, and we'll get it created for you.
Echo360 is installed in specific UIC common-use classrooms and a number of college managed classrooms. For classrooms managed at the college level, instructors must contact the appropriate department to have their lectures captured or streamed. If your college is not listed in the Echo360 Administrators List, please contact your IT department to inquire about the process.
A request must be submitted a week before the first recording session is expected to allow proper time for the scheduler to process the request and can be either one-time events or repeating semester events.
UC provides screencast capabilities allowing instructors to record using a stand-alone application that runs on Windows and Mac computers. Instructors can use UC to record a webcam video input or simply record audio and their computer screen simultaneously, which allows adding sound to PowerPoint presentations and other course material. Editing capabilities are included in the application as well.
The Echo360 Platform includes a set of features to support class participation and note taking. Using Echo360 polling tools, students can participate in class by asking and answering questions, even in large lecture halls or joining class remotely. Students can take notes on the slides presented and flag content as confusing.
To give students access to the videos you create in your courses you must create a link to it in Blackboard. Your lecture captures will appear in each scheduled class section by the next day. Students will be able to watch the capture recordings as well as view the slides, if you choose to upload them.
Additional features like close captioning, polling, and note taking are also available in Echo360. Consult the tutorials in this page or register for training before start using Echo360 in your classroom.

Echo360 is the law school's class capture system. Echo360 enables faculty to record and stream video, audio, and content from a desktop computer or laptop. This new system provides students with a powerful tool that can be used to review class lectures, including PowerPoint presentations and any other materials shown during the class. Echo360 classrooms (Room 120, Room 121, Room 225, and Room 332) create digital files that can be downloaded and played in several portable devices. In addition to class recording, Echo360 also allows faculty to record videos and/or tutorials from their office computer or laptop using the Personal Capture utility. Interested faculty should contact Carlos Sandoval to have the Personal Capture software installed on their computers.
Student organizations and law school departments can also use Echo360 to record their workshops and other events. Interested student organization leaders and law school staff should contact Carlos Sandoval for assistance.
Echo360 has several documents and tutorials on their website that will provide basic information about how to use their system. In addition, faculty must have an account on the Echo360 server before they can upload videos. Students will have access only to the videos of the classes in which they are currently enrolled. Students will need to log-in to Blackboard to view and download their class videos.
Please email our team with at least 24 hours notice. A member of our support team will contact you within 24 hours and provide you with a link that you can share with your participants. This link will become active 10 minutes before the beginning of your event on the scheduled date.

Echo360 is a versatile and reliable system that automatically captures lectures and converts classroom voice, video, and visual-aids into high-quality media files. These media files can be accessed online from devices such as tablets, phones, and computers. Instructors can also utilize Universal Capture (Personal), which allows them to record from their own computers.
Custom Study GuidesBesides viewing your notes, you can edit your notes, edit or remove the timestamp/location tag for each note, these notes can be collected into a Study Guide to help your students review for the class.
Sharing ContentInstructors decide how they would like to share their Echo360 recordings. Recordings can be automatically published to Brightspace or shared with individual students who missed class or were excused.
Engagement ReportingEcho360 allows you to see engagement reporting on your classes. This allows you to see how students are responding to your videos and that they tend to review the most.
Q&A ThreadThe Q&A tab for the course allows you to post questions or comments about the course in general or about a particular class. You can design the questions to elicit responses from students or to provoke discussions between class members on a topic.
ASR Transcription ServicesEcho360 provides Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) transcription services. This an option that CELT staff can activate for a course if the instructor submits a request. It is the responsibility of the instructor to review and edit transcriptions once they are complete.
Lecture RecordingInstructors who are teaching in classrooms that have Echo360 hardware installed can request that their lectures be recorded. If you are not teaching in a classroom that is properly equipped or would like to record lectures from your office, you can use Universal Capture (personal) to record with your personal computer.
