දැනට සිංහල යුනිකෝඩ් අතරමග සිරවී ඇති නිසාත් එය දිගින් දිගට සංවර්ධනය ගැන කවුරුවත් උනන්දු නොවන නිසා අපේ අධ්‍යාපනය ලෝකයේ ප්‍රධාන භාෂාව වන ඉංග්‍රීසියට මාරුවීම හොඳ අදහසක්ද? 

එහි නිසි හා අනිසි ප්‍රතිඵල වේද?

ඒ කෙසේවෙතත් අපිට බැරිද මේ යුනිකෝඩ් සංවර්ධනය වෙන එක ආයෙම හරි පාරට ගන්න. මොකද පුදුම සටනක් දෙන්න වෙනව වැඩිය IT දැනුමක් නැති කෙනෙක්ට සිංහල හදාගන්න. තවමත් වින්ඩෝස් 10 වල හරියට සිංහල input වැඩ කරන්නෙ නෑ. මේව සංවර්ධනය ක්‍රමවත්ව එකතැනකට ගන්න විදිහක් තියෙනවද?

සමාවෙන්න මාතෘකාව වෙන තැනකට ඇදගත්තට. ඒත් මං හිතන්නෙ ඇත්ත ප්‍රශ්නෙ තියෙන්නෙ එතන.

මට නම් මේ යුනිකෝඩ් ප්‍රශ්නය ලංකාවේ සිංහලයින්ට තිබෙන සියළුම ප්‍රශ්න වලින් එකක් පමණයි.

මෙවැනි ප්‍රශ්න එක නීතියකින් විසඳන්න පුළුවන්. ඒත් එහෙම හිතන සිංහලයෝ නැහැ. නැත්නම් සිංහලයෝ අකර්මණ්‍යය කරලා අකර්මණ්‍යය වෙලා.

ලංකාවෙ තුළ විකුණන සියළුම මෙහෙයුම් පද්ධති තුළ සිංහල යුනිකෝඩ් අනිවාර්යෙන්ම තිබිය යුතු සහ එසේ තිබීම ප්‍රමිතිකරණයකට යටත්ව තිබීම අනිවාර්ය වීම මඟින් මෙම ප්‍රශ්නය විසදෙනවා.

එසේ නොවන මෙහෙයුම් පද්ධතීන් ලංකාව තුළ ප්‍රවරධනය කිරීම නීතියෙන් තහනම් කිරීම දඩුවම් ලැබිය හැකි වරදක් බවට පත්කිරීම මඟින් මේ ප්‍රශ්නය සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම විසදෙනවා.

අවාසනාවකට සිංහලයින්ට තමන්ගේ හිමිතැන ගැන අවබෝධයක් නැහැ.

උපතින් සිංහල වී රජයේ මුදලින් උගැන රජයේ රැකියාවල නිරත සිංහලයින් ජාත්‍යන්තරවාදීන්.

දෙමළ ජාතීවාදයෙන් සිංහලය යටපත්කර ඉංගිරිසිය රජකරවීම තවත් ජවයකින් ඉදිරියට ඇවිත් නිසා මේ ප්‍රශ්න විසඳීම ලෙහෙසෙි පහසු කටයුක්තක් නොවේ.

මේක අැත්තටම දැන් රජය විසින් කළ යුතු දෙයක් නෙවෙයි. GitHub වගේ තැනක අදාළ දේවල් විවෘත කේත කරල උනන්දුවක් දක්වන අයට දායකත්වය ලබාදෙන්න ඉඩ සැලැස්විය යුතුයි. 

Can't we start this now? For a start,

1) Open a Github repo for the code for the IME

2) Open a doc space with a few getting started guides for developers

3) Open a dev@ list for the development related discussions

? 

I see a list of issues in the current Sinhala IME used in Ubuntu (the reason I'm typing in English. Maybe I'm not using it right), and since we have an active developer community online, we could probably get this running without many issues.

මේකේ තියෙනවා මම හදපු keyTouch KeyBoard එකයි mac එකට ලියපු keyboard layout එකකයි. කවුරුන් හරි මුල්වෙලා සයිට් එකක් හදනවානම් මේවා ප්‍රයෝජනයට ගන්න. මේ IME එක දියුණු කරලා ගන්න හරි අලුතින් IME එකක් ලියනවානම් අවශ්‍ය තාක්ෂණික දැනුම දෙන්න පුළුවන්. කොඩ් කරන්නම් වෙලාවක් නැතිවෙයි.

හැබැයි සාමන්‍ය මිනිස්සුන්ට git හරියන්නෑ. Siyabas එකේ වගේ පොඩි UI එකක් තියෙන වෙබ් එකක් ඕන. අවශ්‍ය ටූල් ටික තියෙනවානම් වෙබ් එකක් හදලා දාන්න බාර ගන්නම්.

And +1 for a Github page. Shall we start a separate thread to consolidate the code bases we have right now around Sinhala Unicode development? AFAIR there are a few LKLUG members in this list as well. Maybe they can help with getting in touch with the code for Linux bases Sinhala Unicode development?

ICTA is still running a page dedicated for Keyboard Inputs and Fonts [1], and siyabas.lk already redirects to that address. So I don't think it's fair to say the responsible parties have dropped the support for Sinhala Unicode. However, guidelines for Linux are still missing there so it should be a community effort to populate and update that knowledge again.
