THIS IS THE FIRST EVER TEXT I ADDED TO INTERNET USING LINUX IN MY PC !

Finally I became able to setup my CityLink CDMA on Ubuntu !  For this, a trick that "shaakunthala" added to UCSC Lodge was very helpful. I could follow all the steps and setup the connection in about 4-5 minuites, but I ws looking for these for a looooooong time. Thanks Shakunthala ayiya !

But a problem has occured. I am writing this to you using Live session of Ubuntu 8.10. Before I use the live sessions of Ubuntu's older versions, my sound card (actually this is onboard machine) worked properly, but this time I am not luky enough with my sounds !!!

Will this be solved when I install this in computer ?

Second problem is, although Sinhala is supported by Ubuntu, I cant find my familiar Wijesekara keyboard layout here. What I have got is something phonotical (or something like that.. I am not sure) what to do ?

Other problem is, I can read sinhala unicode but with some errors. Like the "Hal kirima" of "Ka yanna" and "Ba yanna" are same here. But In Windows with the support of SinhalaTamilKit, this was not a problem. You can give me a solution for this also.

***

Tell me how to setup LAMP here and where is the "www" folder of it ? What is the BEST replacement for Dreamweaver ? Including PHP support ? (Code coloring is a MUST, as I hardly remember a single code completely !) ;-)

Hi Supun,

For the sound prob. besides the obvious Q did you chk if its muted
(very common), you can check if it was detected by running

$ hal-devices

or if your used to identifying loaded drivers

$lsmod

If the driver is loaded or hal detects it then its some other issue
sound isn't working.

Hello Supun,

In Ubuntu there is a lil mess with the default sinhala Unicode font. So I did something like this to correct this prob. but I dunno what are the other consequences of this . but the problem solved..

sudo apt-get remove ttf-freefont

And add the Sinhala repo for Ubuntu mentioned above, install sinhala stuffs..

Peace..!
