Hello everyone,

While trying to install a package salome_meca from a Sif file. I am running into an error.
It says No write permissions. The Sif file is not in home directory/drive but is rather on HDD. I don't have much space in home drive for a 5GB file. So, what are my options and how do I proceed?

The command I am using is:

singularity run --app install salome-meca.sif

Thanks!
Kindly help.

Hi,

I'm afraid there's not enough detail to offer advice here. We'd need to know what the package is... what language / package manager is used, what the container image is that you are running, etc.

Please give a worked example showing how the container is obtained / generated, and what you are trying to do. Generally Singularity containers are not writable, and you will have to either use a writable sandbox or overlay to add new things inside the container. You can find some information here:

You may also find the Slack workspace is a better location to ask questions, as conversation can be easier there.

Cheers,
