Onecomputer "upgraded" to Windows 11, and another new Windows 11 computer. I swear I have scanned on both since the change to W11. Since the computers did not have the drivers or app installed I did that. Capture On Touch V4 Pro. As of a couple of days ago when I hit Scan, and the power was on, get the message "Scanner is not ready. (Power may have been cycled.) Try operation again. (-4400) Hitting OK gets the same message back over and over. Turning off the power will allow you to clear the error message. Now I find I do not even need to have the app running to get the error message if I turn on the power to the unit.

It is recommended that you download and run the Restoration Tool for Windows Registry. This tool will search for and correct any issues that may be causing this issue. The tool can be downloaded from the following website:

The utility will investigate and determine if there are any inconsistencies. If an inconsistency occurs, the utility will try to fix the issue.. If the tool corrects any issues, please try scanning again.

Your above solutions didn't work. What I found out was setting the date and time backwards fixed the problem. I think this is a firmware issue with these products. I'm currently using DR-C240 scanner.

If the above solutions don't work, I would suggest removing and completely uninstalling the printer, and all Canon software, then reinstall. While there is an upgrade path from W10 > W11, you are still changing the operating system. Some peripherals might not work at all or as expected after this type of upgrade. Performing a fresh install of the printer is often best.

I am having the same problem with the DR-225 and DR-225II. I have reinstalled the software several times. I have found if the scanner is on during a reboot it will work most of the time after the reboot but if the scanner is off then it throws the errors continuously. We converted the whole company to Windows 11 and I have about 5 scanner/computers that don't want to play nice and then the others are doing just fine. It is frustrating trying to troubleshoot when some work and others don't with the same drivers. We are discussing switching to Fujitsu if Canon can't get this issue fixed.

One thing that my mean that I will get a return engagement of this issue, is that I did the fix on one W11 computer. Then I plugged into the other W11 computer with the USB cable, and it worked there as well, even though I hadn't run your fix on that computer, and it hadn't worked there before either.

If you get to the point where Apple's Image Capture, or the available Canon drivers for this device are just not working and wasting your time, then note that the optional paid (free trial) VueScan Professional supports the CR-C225 document scanner without any Canon drivers. That gives you vendor independence.

I have owned VueScan Professional since 2010, which allows me to use a Canon abandoned flatbed scanner from that era on my M2 Mac mini pro using Ventura 13.3.1. In the interim years, I have never paid for a VueScan upgrade to maintain current software. In no manner does the VueScan vendor recognize nor compensate me in any way for mentioning their product here.

Yes, Canon's site has a driver and says it's compatible, but the driver doesn't see the scanner, neither does Vuescan, and neither does the OS in System Settings, so I think it's a Mac OS problem, possibly limited to the hardware.

I've been in contact with Canon repeatedly via email and phone; on the phone I was directed from one number to another (in Brazil where I live), and then given an email; I emailed Canon Brazil and Canon Europe and got no reply.

The only solution I can see is to install Windows with Boot Camp - if the hardware is not recognising the scanner in the Mac OS then I don't see how using virtualisation would help. However I really would like to be able to use the scanner again - I don't have money to change it (and are relatively much more expensive in Brazil) and my old MBP is currently not working.

In my case, the MacBook Air M2 running Ventura OS connects via USB to the R10 [verified by viewing OS system report], the CaptureOntouch app opens properly. However, when scan button is pressed ERROR Message comes on screen "cannot use driver". Contacted Canon Support tech who agreed laptop and software seemed to be running correctly but also states that the onboard R10 firmware has no M1/M2 compatible driver and an update has not been developed by Canon engineers to date. As a stand alone, software and drivers are in R10's Firmware.

I have been trying to connect the ImageFORMULA DR-C225 to my macbook pro, however I have been having no luck. Despite trying to download the firmware and drives for MacOS 13, it has been showing me an error message.

Once you have made sure that the required permissions are enabled (checked), please open the CaptureOnTouch program on your computer and use it to scan. If the same error returns, I recommend that you go back to the Security & Privacy folder to check the Firewall options. Before you do this, please make sure that CaptureOnTouch is not running. You can follow these steps:

I still have huge problems with the software for my DR-C225 scanner. I have tried all of the proposed solutions, but it still only works for a couple of scans, and the report a problem with the software. Very frustrating!

The above is what happens after about 10-15 scannings. After that I cannot scan anything unless I remove and reinstall the driver. I have difficulties calling you, there is a great time differens between Sweden and the US, and I don't really know how your telephone number works; so many digits and no country code. What number should I call from Europe to you?

It's been 10 days since Catalina's release (and months since their beta), and I don't see any news about when the 64-bit version of the scanner software for my DR-C225 will be available. Anyone hear anything? Thanks.

Others have been asking the same question. Post from one of the mods yesterday said their Dev team was still working on Catalina drivers. Release was if/when they are availabe. I know, not too definitive.

The DR-C225 is supported up to OS Mojave (10.14). The scanner will not be supported with OS Catalina. While considering the desire to provide the best possible support for Canon's current products in a timely manner, Canon must make decisions on which products to support when operating systems are introduced. These decisions are generally based on the age of the product, technical components, and the number of product estimated to be still in use.

Thank you for your response, but this is absolutely unacceptable. You are telling me that my scanner is pretty much bricked and is no longer usable by me. The scanner is not that old. In fact, the current version, the DR-C225 II, is ALSO not compatible with Catalina, and that scanner is not that different from my model. Are you saying that customers of that scanner will also not get a new driver/software update?

Actually, it looks like the new driver and software for Capture On Touch does not work for the DR-C225. I tried installing it, then upgraded to Catalina, and the software will not connect to the scanner. Either this is a bug, or they Canon really does not intend for the new updates to work on Catalina. Either way, shame on Canon. Just ordered a new Epson document scanner and I will never buy another Canon product again.

I just installed the Catalina driver as well, which does not include an updated Capture-on-Touch. This is ridiculous. I intentionally waited until the Catalina drivers were updated on the support site before upgrading to Catalina and still nothing works. I'm sure a lot of other folks are being affected by this as well. We deserve a better answer from Canon support.

COT was working fine with Mac OS 12 (Monterey) but since I upgraded to OS 13 Ventura, Ventura says COT "is damaged." When I downloaded a new copy, it always say, "installation failed!" My scanner is Canon ImageFormula R40. So my scanner is useless until Canon releases a new COT?

Once that is done, please click HERE and download/install the TWAIN Driver and CaptureOnTouch software. Please be advised that currently there is no driver or software for MacOS13 so on the webpage click macOS13 and change it to macOS12. Then you will be able to download the drivers.

I followed your instructions but Mac OS13 couldn't install the Driver for OS12 nor the COT for OS12. I called the Enterprise & Desktop Solutions Division but they said that there's currently no software for OS13. So I'll just wait it out. Thanks, anyway.

Thank you for the instructions on how to install for MacOS13. The instructions worked great.

I made certain to download only the software you mentioned, and not the other software that's listed under MacOS12. I'm not sure which of the two you're supposed to download first. I just happen to install the TWAIN Driver software first and then theCaptureOnTouch software. All is well. Thanks again.
