When you try to activate a client system, the activation wizard uses DNS to locate a corresponding computer that's running the KMS software. If the wizard queries DNS and does not find the DNS entry for the KMS host computer, the wizard reports an error.

If you cannot install a KMS host or, for some other reason, you cannot use KMS activation, change the product key to an MAK. If you downloaded Windows images from the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN), or from TechNet, the stock-keeping units (SKUs) that are listed below the media are generally volume licensed-media, and the product key that's provided is an MAK key.

KMS activation requires that a KMS host be configured for the clients to activate against. If there are no KMS hosts configured in your environment, install and activate one by using an appropriate KMS host key. After you configure a computer on the network to host the KMS software, publish the Domain Name System (DNS) settings.

If the output from this command does not include the phrase "Reply from," there is a network problem or DNS issue that you must resolve before you can use the other procedures in this article. For more information about how to troubleshoot TCP/IP issues if you cannot ping the DNS server, see Advanced troubleshooting for TCP/IP issues.

If these commands resolve the problem, this is an SRV record issue. You can you can troubleshoot it by using one of the commands that are documented in the Manually assign a KMS host to a KMS client procedure.

If none of these commands resolves the problem, check the computer's firewall configuration. Any activation communications that occur between KMS clients and the KMS host use the 1688 TCP port. The firewalls on both the KMS client and the KMS host must allow communication over port 1688.

If the nslookup command finds the KMS host, it does not mean that the DNS client can find the KMS host. If the nslookup command finds the KMS host, but you still cannot activate by using the KMS host, check the other DNS settings, such as the primary DNS suffix and the search list of the DNS suffix.

To configure a BIND 9.x-compatible DNS server to support KMS auto-publishing, configure the DNS server to enable resource record updates from KMS hosts. For example, add the following line to the zone definition in Named.conf or in Named.conf.local:

By default, the KMS clients use the automatic discovery process. According to this process, a KMS client queries DNS for a list of servers that have published _vlmcs SRV records within the membership zone of the client. DNS returns the list of KMS hosts in a random order. The client picks a KMS host and tries to establish a session on it. If this attempt works, the client caches the name of the KMS host and tries to use it for the next renewal attempt. If the session setup fails, the client randomly picks another KMS host. We highly recommend that you use the automatic discovery process.

As described in Manually assign a KMS host to a KMS client, KMS clients typically use the automatic discovery process to identify KMS hosts. This process requires that the _vlmcs SRV records must be available in the DNS zone of the KMS client computer. The DNS zone corresponds to either the primary DNS suffix of the computer or to one of the following:

By default, a KMS host registers its SRV records in the DNS zone that corresponds to the domain of the KMS host computer. For example, assume that a KMS host joins the contoso.com domain. In this scenario, the KMS host registers its _vlmcs SRV record under the contoso.com DNS zone. Therefore, the record identifies the service as _VLMCS._TCP.CONTOSO.COM.

Last time i was hacked and my Facebook was compromised. After long time of scanning and using different malware, spyware i discover SW called KVRT, That KVRT solved my problem, From that day i am periodically scanning my PC with KVRT while ESET is Active and Installed.

Without getting the files and analyzing them it's impossible to tell if they are subject to detection, if they are malware or PUA/PUsA or simply false positives by the said scanner. Please provide the files or files from quarantine for perusal. I'd recommend emailing them to samples[at]eset.com in an archive encrypted with the password "infected" and a link to this topic enclosed.

1, The uninstall executables marked as High risk - probably false alarms.
2, The apk file - an application for Android, doesn't run on Windows
3, KMSAuto - Windows activator, should be detected by ESET with PUsA detection enabled.
4, GenAutorun task - sounds like a Scheduler task that was detected. The name doesn't tell anything about the task, could be FP.

Problem Remains at MultiGen AutoRun task Trojan at system memory, its second time thats happen and ESET didn't notify at all. Over all i am very satisfier by ESET. I have huge protection online, offline etc but this part concern me ,
How on the earth it get into memory and ESET wont catch it ? What should i provide so ESET Team can analyze this ?

You could always download SysInternals Autoruns utility. Then configure it to submit all generated existing autoruns entries to VirusTotal for any detections there. However if the detection is when a scheduled task is created, the related task entry would not show in Autoruns output.

Cure in KVRT is the same as the clean option in Eset scanning. Two possibilities here. Either KVRT just terminated and removed what was running in memory, or it performed the aforementioned and also deleted what was the source of the memory detection. If it did the later, I assumed it would have quarantined whatever the source process was.

I just installed 16.04 on my MacBook Air, and everything seems to work well, except booting the system. I've been going through the dmesg-log and found out that drm_kms_helper-errors occur repeatedly and takes a lot of time each. The excact error is like this:

Post by jaylittle - 2018-06-25 21:54:22 If you want to solve your screen tearing issue in Xfce without relying upon the broken intel xorg driver, just disable the built in Xfce compositor and run something like compton as part of your session startup. That should resolve your issue with screen tearing and allow you to use the more reputable kms driver.

Note that if the problem is with your Windows activation, then I can't assist you. we don't provide help if the operating system is not legally activated, with either OEM or Retail license. A not activated system consists a security risk, and it will give you many issues in the future. Regardless the legal factor, it is a waste of time to clean a not activated operating system, since soon or later it will have issues.

So... let's make some checks first.

1. Check the operating system

What, however, is the most concerning thing here, is that your operating system is activated with KMS service. This maybe is due to several reasons: you bought the license from a questionable site or store, the computer belongs to a company, or you used KMS service to activate the operating system. From what you have said, the guy who built the computer for you used this way to activate Windows, probably without telling you the risks. This volume licenses in a personal system can cause several issues, soon or later, including malware infections, since no idea from where he got the copy he installed you.

The files on the Google Drive were from many years ago when using Windows 7 on another computer. They copied over when installing Google Drive on this computer. The entire folder was deleted so not sure why it's stating the files are still there.

So I guess the question is to buy a Windows license, how would I go about this and not loose any business documents and accounting programs on the pc?

So I guess the question is to buy a Windows license, how would I go about this and not loose any business documents and accounting programs on the pc?
Do I need to do a full new install, or can I get the license and then repair any further issues?

Normally, buying a Retail license and applying it would do the job. The thing is that I have no idea from where the system was downloaded so I would recommend a clean install of Windows, directly from Microsoft site.In this case, nothing will remain in the computer, so you must first backup your personal files, pictures, Music, Videos, Downloads. Unfortunately, you must install again all the apps and programs you need.
