Are there better ways to play with data locally?

I'm trying to play with data in my local locker (as well as the one at singly.com), and I've had to come up with some hacks, besides not being able to post data updates.  Here's a summary of my progress.

Note there are some structural things that I've had to change in the api.js, both for those data issues and for local app development in general.

So... am I way off track with my approach, and are there better ways to work with a local locker?  It seems like y'all in the office may have a better way of doing things and I've missed something somewhere.  Thanks.
