That thing on these tapes is not your mother." Last month we saw Mark Webber encounter some terror in the trailer for the SXSW selected thriller 13 Sins, but now he's venturing into the horror genre with Jessabelle. The film follows Sarah Snook as the titular character, a woman returning to her childhood home in Louisiana to recuperate from a horrific car accident. However, rather than finding peace there, she comes face to face with a long-tormented spirit that has been seeking her return. Webber plays a friend who tries to help her with this supernatural mystery. Looks like a standard horror film, but the main character being confined to a wheelchair changes things up since she can't escape easily. Maybe it'll be good? Watch!
Jessabelle is directed by Kevin Greutert (Saw VI, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter), written by Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum, Hell Baby, Balls of Fury) and produced by Jason Blum (Insidious, Paranormal Activity, Sinister, The Purge). After losing her fianc in a horrific accident, Jessabelle (Sarah Snook) is forced to recuperate at her father's ruined Louisiana mansion, where she discovers a strange gift from her long-dead mother, and a terrifying presence determined to destroy her. Mark Webber, David Andrews, Joelle Carter, Larisa Oleynik and more star in the film Lionsgate will release on August 29th.
'Jessabelle' tells the story of a young woman who is injured in a car crash and returns home to recuperate with her widowed father. When she uncovers a tape her deceased mother left with a special tarot card reading just for her, things start to get pretty darn scary. In addition to the ghostly presence haunting young Jessabelle, there's also a brief scene in the trailer featuring what appears to be voodoo symbols, so color us intrigued.
The first trailer for 'Jessabelle' has debuted online, the latest from Blumhouse Productions, the outfit that's brought us horror flicks like 'Insidious' and the recent 'Oculus,' which has us pretty optimistic about this southern-flavored spook show. The film features tarot cards, ghosts, and voodoo -- all suitably creepy elements. \nRead More

The trailer introduces the horror/thriller film Jessabelle, which follows a young woman named Jessabelle who returns to her childhood home after a car accident. The trailer uses many horror genre conventions like low lighting, paranormal elements, and a sense of unease. It establishes Jessabelle as the vulnerable protagonist and builds tension through jump scares, creepy sounds and music, and unexplained events. The target audience is identified as young adults who enjoy being frightened. Through its editing, camera work, sound, and mise-en-scene, the trailer effectively sets up the thriller/horror elements and plot of the film within the constraints of a 2 minute 30 second trailer.Read less
