Hey Folks

I just relaunced Simplebucket - Release on March 20th and would like
to share this the SG Ruby Group. SImplebucket was conceived last year
at RailsRumble along with a couple of other SG RailsRumble team. SInce
then, the application has changed quite a bit with a new look, fixes
and adding a bunch of other features.

With this launch, I'm seeing a lot more international visitors than US
visitors (since RailsRumble is kinda of a US thing so I was expecting
more US visitors), I'm in the process of planning or brainstorming
what other features would appeal to a certain location. So for example
for SG users. What type of feature would you guys look for in a photo
hosting that is unique to Singapore.

Something that I can think of right away is geolocation like being
able to tag photos to specific neighboorhoods like Chomp Chomp, East
Coast... and not location like cities, state type.. if you know what I
mean. Yea, so things like that.. .. I would love to hear some
feedback ... please please...

And oh.. since I already got your attention until so far (shameless
pitch), please use SImplebucket and let me know what you like or don't
like and tell your friends about us (or Simplebucket and in this case
its just or me ..... not us )

Thanks!

Hi Khang,

Good show and I will be posting pics soon! :-)

I would like to know what are your plans for the site, and what kind of assurances do we as users in terms of service namely in the following area:

#1 availability (how good is the availability etc)
#2 Permanence (will our photos always be there etc)

Cheers,

Koi Hin

Thanks! With the release of Release, I have in mind additional features as well as infrastructure upgrades in the future. I'm currently working on a feature call "Beeps" that's going to be a major feature for the next release, and "Beeps" is just an easy way for our users to share and consume photos, I can't expand much on the details for now.

As far as availability, the application is being hosted in the US and as I see more visitors and usage (hopefully), I do plan on scaling up the infrastructure. But the long term plan would be to move the content over to a CDN and that would provide better loading speed for outside US visitors. But yea, that is definitely something that I'm considering. I would hope that Simplebucket would live long and provide a home for all our users' photo, but right now, I guess my hope is to keep Simplebucket going and see enough growth to pursue a feasible and profitable business model.

Thanks for the questions and they are good concerns and I hope I have somewhat addressed those.

Regards
Khang

Hi Khang,

thanks for the reply!

While additional features are great, I am more of a 'ease of use' person. For me, ease of use is the biggest 'feature'. This means not only an intuitive and simple interface but also the least levels necessary to get to where and what I wish to do. So far what I see bodes well.

Another feature which I think would be very nice is 'ease of migration'. It would be great if SB made it easy for its users to move their content (preferably with their meta-data intact) to another online hosting service. To me, this would be a great feature because it gives the assurance that there is a relatively convenient migration path to move them elsewhere should some day Simple Bucket decide to close or I as a user prefer another service.

Cheers,

Koi Hin
