FAQ
What is Paperthon about?
Just a bit of background to the uninitiated. Paperthon is a paper-writing competition and shares much of its philosophy with design sprints and hackathons, just that the process is directed towards producing a short paper as an outcome. So, participants quickly ideate (ideally their next CHI/UIST, etc. projects), try to prototype and conduct short pilots with 2 or 3 participants, and finally write the process in the form of a short (4-6 pages) manuscript, within a span of ~50 hours. Participants are encouraged to work in teams of 2 or 3 if they happen to share a common idea and can strike up a collaboration, else they may opt to work individually.

Who should participate?
If you are looking to kickstart your paper writing process for CHI 2021, then Paperthon is the perfect platform to get you started. Use this opportunity to get feedback from mentors and shape your paper’s direction. You are strongly encouraged to combine this opportunity with the CHI 2021 Pitching Session — incorporate the feedback you receive from the pitching session, concretize your idea, form collaborations, and get started with writing your idea (and preliminary results) down in the form of a CHI paper. As the experts say, writing is a process of thinking and it should be a process that you start from the beginning of a project.

"Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere" -- Albert Einstein
