Hi all,

Quick intro since I just joined: I'm a recent programming newbie (first LoC written in June 2012) who tried to found a data science team (of 2!) using Haskell only. It's been a fun ride for sure but the bet paid off beyond my wildest expectations (and learning the maths is part of the fun). We like to take the unchartered path: Renhui Shen (also part of the group) is trying to build our entire web reporting in Yesod.

I'd love to hear from other members in Singapore what you are working on using the FP paradigm, and feedback on your experience. Thought one good way would be to set up as part of the next meetup (or as a new meetup) 5 min summaries from each team describing that, over pizza and beer and further discussion. Depending on the number of people interested we could probably host this in the Zalora offices in Dhoby Ghaut (above 20 it's going to be tough, unless we pick an antisocial time).

This is not just from personal interest, but also because I've found it very hard to sell FP generally, and Haskell especially, for production code within Zalora, and I'd love to see more real life case studies where it paid off.

Any thoughts?

Hi Corentin,

Thanks for the intro. It is always exciting to know that more people are using Haskell / FP in real world applications.
You are not alone! There are teams (big and small) in Singapore (members of SFP of course) who are working with FPs in their daily jobs.

Re: the next meetup venue, we are planning to have it in HP Labs. We can always schedule the subsequent round in a different location, Zalora sounds like a good location too. (I sign up for the pizzas! =)). More importantly, if you could share some of your experience and thoughts, please kindly put up a talk, which we always lack of.

Regards,
Kenny

We have some issues with security at HP labs. So we have to change the location. Zalora's office sounds more convenient than Blk 71. Can we do it at Zalora?

How many people usually come? Our biggest conf room can probably squeeze 15 or so, 20 if standing... there's a bigger area outside, but people work til 9 or so which makes it harder to hold a talk.

By the way we are hiring a Haskeller, is it appropriate to post the ad here or would it be considered spam?

We had about 12-15 at the last meetup.
