HI folks in SFP,
It's been really a long while. I hope you all are doing well.
I would like to keep you guys posted on some upcoming event on FP.

Recently, I am starting to teach Haskell as a year 4 module in Singapore Institute of Technology / University of Glasgow. My co-worker, Dr Jeremy Singer, and I planned to organize a half a day event. The following are the tentative plan.

Venue : SIT campus @ Republic Polytechnic,
Time:  either 28 Feb 2019 (Thu) or 7 Mar 2019 (Thu).  It will be a day time event. Whether it's a morning event or afternoon event, TBD.

Content:
The main idea is to invite industry folks who use FP in the commercial environment to come and share. Both Jeremy and I will also share about what we have been doing with FP in the institutes.

Participant:
SIT students and staff and FP folks in Singapore,

Currently we reached out to folks in Standard Chartered, they are interested. We are trying to reach out to Google and Facebook folks too.

So what is in there?
- You might learn about what is the latest development of FP commercial use in SG,
- You may find out how Haskell is used in UoG research
- You may meet some of the young force who learned Haskell and will be out to the job market in mid of next year.

If any of you are interested in joining, mark the calendar tentatively first. I will keep you posted.
If any of you are interested in contributing a talk, do let me know!!!

Regards,
Kenny

Hi Kenny

Do you guys plan to come down (or should I say up) to Hong Kong? I've now relocated to HK and would love to catchup with you all.

Thanks

Wow that sounds very interesting, I'll try to come up with something self-contained and illustrative to present.

Hi Gergo and Raymond,

Awesome, please drop me a separate email at luzh...@gmail.com regarding the talk title, abstract, and a little bio of yourself?

Raymond, Scala and Haskell are lambda calculus at the core, so it is definitely ok! =)

Kenny

You might have taken my tentative "oh I can probably prepare something" to
be more committal than I meant to... I don't have anything yet. Can you
give me a deadline by which I would need to give the final yes/no on
whether I want to present?

OK how about:

Title: Applicative Spicers: Cooking curry with just one shopping trip

Synopsis: Let's see if we can use the power of Haskell to write recipes
that avoid four common problems that cooks face every day the world over:
1. Needing to rent a universe-sized warehouse to hold all possible raw ingredients
2. Starting World War 3 due to a recipe that calls for launching the missiles
3. Having to take multiple trips to the store because ingredients are only
discovered during cooking
4. Finding out that the ingredients list was incorrect: some unused meat
is spoiling in the corner, while the recipe is suddenly calling for eggplant but
the grocery store is already closed...

Hi Kenny,

I've got some conflicting information in various emails on whether this starts at 1:30 or 2:30. Can you confirm the right date and time? And intended talk length? Also, is there a concrete location already?

Some co-workers of mine would like to tag along. Is the event open?

Thanks,
Gergo
