Tuesday Jan 10th OSH Housing - Call for Bleeding Hearts

Hi Everyone,

So I've got a new date. Jan 10th. This will be the start of a new
experiment to see if "Helping People Help Themselves" is feasible.
There will be an anouncement to see if any of the clients will want to
help out in the kitchen. We'll take 1 or 2 and pair them up with us to
cut fruit/serve food/etc and chit/chat. Crystal (the manager) and I
always said the goal is not to feed people but to interact with people
and be a bridge to a different world. We'll try it a couple times and
judge if its success or failure and why.

So putting out the call to bleeding hearts for Jan 10th!

Oh boy, Elliot and Trang are going to show and make veggie/chicken
stir fry.

7 - Should be comfy in the kitchen! Middle of January at least it will
be
WARM! 8 with one of the clients helping out. I'll
volunteer for washing dishes and serving food to get out of the way.

Can someone bring fruit? I think we'll have a client work with you
to chop fruit for fruit dish. We'll start out simple..

Well...I am bummed, I just found out I will be out of town for work/
training that day so I'm going to
have my best people replace me. We still have 6 people which is
totally more than
enough. But we'll put off the experiment until I'm there that day.

Which reminds me, can you review the calendar and let me know what
you
want to bring?

Once again, I am out of town with work so I'm sending along
ingredients for Andreas
great bean dish. Can I ask Linda and Andrea to cook it up? I think you
just mix green
beans, almond slivers together and warm it up. That would be super
duper if you could.
If not let me know and I'll go to plan B.

Elliot: Gaby is going to drive herself and follow Andrea home so I
think she will be
OK.

Thanks again everyone! Winter for the homeless really sucks this time
of year.
I hope my schedule isn't so random in the future so I can be there.

OK, so we are ready to rock. We have plenty of people. Jeff Austin kindly volunteered to replace me. Gaby will bring the bean ingredients and Andrea will show Jeff how to warm things up. Wheeewww.

I couldn't find the top to my big, tall pot yesterday and I just wanted to make sure nobody accidentally took it with them last night.

 

It was nice to meet some new people and I think I set a new personal record in terms of how quickly I was able to whip together a pot of curry - which I couldn't have done without the help of the rest of you. I look forward to doing this again sometime in the near future.
