So I was sitting next two 2 Native women and 1 older Caucasian lady.
30 minutes, couldn't get more than 10 words out of them. For some
reason I ask the Native lady if she new the history behind Pike Island
by Fort Snelling. I spent the next 3 hours listening to Native
American History from all 3. Turns out her uncle was Leonard Peltier
from Pine Ridge:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Peltier
, her dad spent 28 years in prison for Pine Ridge for transporting
Peltier. Her great-great? grandfather faught Custer at Little Big Horn
at age 13. Her grandfather told her all the stories. Her goal was to
get a college degree and become president of the Wounded Knee
Indians.
So while I can't really say if any of the above is true or not, I can
say that my perception of homeless people has change dramatically over
the past 5.5 years. Here you have someone living in the streets
wanting to become president of an Indian nation? How does that stack
up with my dreams? I just want to climb 5.10 now and then.
I'm just sad it took me 5.5 years to figure it out but I'm really glad
I did.
Amy made the greatest salad with avacados and fruit dish to date. I
heard several ladies saying "Hurry up, they are serving fruit and
salad!" They rarely get fresh food. One lady was picking the avacados.
Gaby made this killer baked curry potato dish that was the best she
ever made. The outside was crispy, inside was flavorful. Women were
asking her for recipe.
Julie made home made cookies and ice cream. Yet another treat they
rarely get so almost everyone had 3 cookies and huge piles of ice
cream.
Paula's recipe for chicken Parmesan was supreme as always.
Here are the pics of the happy crew:

This was the last one for Gaby and I. March 31st is the last one for
our group (later more). I am researching other homeless shelters to
continue my personal tutoring on humbleness and servitude.
So I leave you with some classic tunes, not sure why I picked them.
Download and enjoy.
