Call for Bleeding Hearts : Jan 21st Thursday - Simpson Update on Shelter Move

Greetings Bleeding Hearts,

#1: Hey, its cold out there so how about showing up and warming people
up with your smiles and good cooking? Jan 21st which happens to be my
birthday so we'll have a birthday party for everyone and then
afterwards stop at Nyes Bar on Hennepin afterwards.

#2: I attended the meeting where they talked about the move. The
woman's shelter has been re-zoned and so they have to leave. So they
are going to move them into St. Steven's Church along with the men's
shelter. This will happen in the August 2010 timeframe. Its going to
be a tight fit and not the greatest situation for the ladies because
many have been abused so the trust factor with men is difficult for
them. But this was the best solution they could come up with. They
have a grant to improve the facilities which is good. They believe
that the women will be served a separate meal from the men. The
kitchen is huge and fully equipped so that is good. And St. Steven's
church will benefit financially greatly which is more incentive for
them to keep it open. So considering the overall bleak homeless
situation in Minneapolis right now and an absence of viable options,
this is all more positive then negative for the woman's shelter. Not
perfect.

WOW everyone. Looks like its going to be a birthday party I won't forget. We'll you all are coming and I have to figure out who brings what.

Of course I'll bring my baritone so we can sing me a Happy Birthday. Anyone else this month or close that has a birthday? I'll buy the first round at Nye's Bar. I'm sure I'll have to do a karoake song for you all..how could you miss this?

Just FYI, my official date is Sat. Jan 23rd. I'm having another party that day you all are invited. Stay tuned for the notice.
