to OSH Bleeding Hearts
Well, not sure you ever drove in a Minnesota blizzard traffic jam but
we left Vertical Endeavors at 4:30pm and arrived at OSH at 6:45pm.
Everyone had the same traffic nightmare stories. Kathleen fell in the
parking lot with a tray of pork roast, but she SAVED the pork
roast..that is dedication. We had to serve at 7pm so were 45minutes
late but it was a flurry of Hell's Kitchen 4 people walking over each
other yelling and in panic mode, we were a machine. Fun but intense.
Thanks for everyone for the dangerous drive, the clients seemed to
really really appreciate the warm food this time!

All the food was GONE GONE GONE:

Julie's bean dish: made it 3/4 way through servings...GONE
Gaby's usual delish potatoes were scraped to the pan..GONE
Kathleens pork roast looked and tasted supreme....GONE
Mike's veggie pasta...GONE
Andrea's salad and apples...GONE
Jeff and his big strong arms juggling boiling oil
Vicki's brownies were unbelievable creamy and major hit...still going
going going (brought out late)
William playing cards with the clients and beating them.

The 'discussion' gets more and more interesting. Just bring it up and
people have 10 different opinions on the best way to help. Latest
topic "What is appropriate topics to bring up with the clients?" "Are
we there to serve food or to be social workers?".

Andrea engaged a person that said he liked OSH because they made
people be accountable...look for work save money, etc. Other shelters
are just people warehouses (no offense, I'm sure they are just waaaay
overjammed)

I was talking to a 31 year old guy that was desperate for work "I
would shovel shit for 12 hours if you show me the pile". He spent the
blizzard in the back of an open pickup truck going from house to house
shoveling. At the end of the meal he JUMPED up and started cleaning
counters on his own accord. This guy really wanted to work BAD, from
what I could tell.

Of course its hard to tell what the total true stories are, but if we
are sitting at home holding down the couch with the remote
control...how are we ever going to really find out what's going on in
the real world? And if you have an opinion on the topic please don't
send me email, come on down and talk to everyone about it..get
engaged! Its friggin Xmas, go out and do something for someone else
and make their holiday the best ever!!!!

Jan 21st. My birthday and next call of Bleeding Hearts and we'll do
the 'Discussion' at Nyes Pollaniyse bar (or Keegan's if Nyes is too
crazy).

HO HO HO. Happy Holidays Ya' All!
