"Kirsten's Topless Ambition" is a program on BBC3. It's already been
repeated several times, and will doubtless be repeated again.
The program was fairly low on information content, but did include a
few notable points.
The program featured Kirsten O'Brien. Never heard of her? It's not
surprising; she's a presenter on children's TV. She wanted to progess
her TV career and had observed that many former female children's TV
presenters had become household names, and had made successful moves
to prime time TV, after appearing in glamour photoshoots for various
lads mags. Kirsten was pondering whether she should do the same.
Kirsten is aged 36, and not really a beauty.
The program began with an interview with Angelica Bell, who made the
move to prime time TV after doing a photoshoot for FHM. Angelica said
doing the glamour photoshoot was the "best thing she'd ever done".
There was an interview with Andrea Turner, who had done a photoshoot
for Tatler magazine, wearing just a snake. Andrea's view was that the
benefits of doing a glamour photoshoot depend entirely on the girl
herself: for some girls it's a very smart move, but for other girls it
does nothing. Andrea thought Kisten was in the 2nd group.
There was a scene with Page-3 girl Amii Grove, who was doing a topless
photoshoot, and who looked quite stunning. That part of the program
didn't actually tell us much (apart from noticing how stunning Amii
appeared in contrast to Kirsten). We've noticed that there are two
versions of this program: when the program is being shown before 9pm,
Amii Grove's boobs are pixellated; the version shown after 9pm shows
Amii in her full glory.
Kirsten's agent tried to arrange meeting with each of the lads mags.
None of the major mags had heard of Kirsten, and didn't seem
interested. She did manage to get an interview with Front magazine,
but only because they seemed desperate to get anyone. She declined
that offer.
There was an interview with Peter Stringfellow. He made the
observation that "sexy" and "funny" don't mix. He thought Kisten was a
"funny" girl: she'd built her chldren's TV career on behaving like a
clown. Her thought she had no chance of getting into a lads mag.
Finally there was an interview with someone from FHM, who bravely told
her that she wasn't FHM material.
