I have it installed on my LDAP server, so that I can assign users to
certain groups with escalated permissions after users are provisioned.

If you are going to use LAM, beware that it allows you to easily assign
posixAccount to posixGroup, only.
In my case, I my users are inetOrgPerson but not posixAccount.
It means that, in the page which was designed to assign users to groups,
I cannot see lots of users there because they are not inetOrgPerson.
This is unfortunate, becase posixAccount does not have certain userful
attibutes like cn and sn. On the other hand, posixAccount has attribute
homeDirectory which is required but absolutely nonsense to my applications.
Just a warning in case you are playing with LAM.
