Hi all,

We are pleased to announce the first release candidate of SimpleSAMLphp version 1.18.

https://github.com/simplesamlphp/simplesamlphp/releases/tag/v1.18.0-rc1

This is a minor version, meaning it should keep backwards-compatibility with the previous ones. As a release candidate, we encourage our users to test it out and report any possible issues, but do not recommend it in production yet. This version is raising again the minimum PHP version supported, in this case to PHP 5.6. As such, if you want to run the upcoming SimpleSAMLphp version you will need to upgrade your PHP installation to at least 5.6, although a minimum of PHP 7.1 is recommended. Note that all versions of PHP 5 and PHP 7.0 are already unsupported by the PHP development team, and 7.1 is not getting security updates after December the 1st. Take a look at the upgrade notes for more information:

https://simplesamlphp.org/docs/1.18/simplesamlphp-upgrade-notes-1.18

This new 1.18 release will provide an almost finished new user interface, featuring a new admin module that holds most of the functionality that previously was part of the general web user interface. This new user interface is still experimental, but can be activated by setting the “usenewui” temporary configuration option to “true”. Apart from that, lots of internal changes have been performed in order to allow for better automated testing and reduce the possibility of bugs being introduced in the code base. Please have a look at the changelog for a complete list of changes:

https://simplesamlphp.org/docs/1.18/simplesamlphp-changelog

We would really appreciate if you give this release candidate a try and report any feedback (positive or negative) to us.

Regards,
