Hello everyone -

Has anyone of you or someone you know has used simpleNLG in data-to-text system such as Quill by Narrative Science or Wordsmith by Automated Insights? I realize simpleNLG is just the realization part so a lot has to be done but would love to learn from anyone who has developed data-to-text app by using simpleNLG.

very best,

adeel

Hello, simplenlg has been used in many data-to-text applications, in fact it was developed to support data-to-text systems such as Babytalk (https://ehudreiter.com/2016/12/15/the-story-of-simplenlg/)

I’ve never used Quill or Wordsmith, but my understanding is that simplenlg offers more linguistic functionality than these systems.  However, simplenlg does not offer any kind of authoring user-interface, you need to write code in order to use it.

Thank you for responding, Prof Reiter. Much appreciated. We are a startup and are in the R&D phase of NLG part of our application and figuring out if we can even develop a working MVP (of the NLG system) with no prior experience in NLG. In fact I have been reading resources given on your blog for last few days and they have been a tremendous help. Thank you so much for putting that info out for the community.
