SimpleGeo = Great
SimpleGeo + Urban Airship = Fine by me, still great services, supposedly nice collaboration
Urban Airship = COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM SIMPLEGEO, which is now dead

UA just screwed everyone who programmed for SG Storage... So many hours of work and now it has to be redone and new API's need to be learned!  All because you don't want to keep the f*cking servers running?!  We don't want a pass for 6 months of your $200/month service - we want the service that we expected wouldn't be interrupted!  You just cost my one-man startup at least 2 or 3 weeks of work (probably much more) and I'm sure I'm not the only one affected!  You ate a company that was doing great things for other companies, used only a small part of what they offered, and then sh*t the rest out.

I know this is dramatic but a LOT of our work has to be redone just because you don't want to keep selling this service to people.  We're all screwed - and this doesn't make you stop in your tracks?

Hi Tyler,

Thanks for your feedback. As the former Developer Advocate at SimpleGeo, I understand how this news will impact businesses like yours. I am responding to every email we get.

Unfortunately, this was the decision that was made, but I am here to make sure this process is as painless as possible. If you have any questions about other services or your migration, definitely let me know.

Best,

Emile

Do you really understand?  Somehow I doubt you see the full extent of the damage UA has done.

Putting aside my desire to cripple everyone who made this awful decision:
My code is in PHP and I'd like a guide to accessing Factual's data with all the features of SG Places.  The Places API was great in that it allowed me to search for places near a pair of coordinates while filtering by multiple categories with a radius of 100km.  I need that with a competent Factual PHP client.  All the code is in PHP and I don't know any other client-side languages... And Factual is the only option.
I also need a full replacement for Storage - when a user clicks a search result, the record is copied to Storage and loaded from there.  Then the record can be edited by the owner.  I need a database that will make it as easy as possible to (grrrrr...) rewrite all the variables that have anything to do with creating, accessing, and updating the records.

Hi Tyler,

Here are the resources I found that should help you-

For Factual:

For Storage:
We highlighted a few options in our SimpleGeo Migration Options:

Let me know if I can help further-

May I suggest PlaceLogic?

We have two APIs specifically designed to meet the needs of SimpleGeo
customers. PlaceLogic Simple Migration API lets SimpleGeo subscribers
switch with minimal effort and cost by emulating SimpleGeo's API
endpoints and responses. And our PlaceLogic Advanced API is for
customers who can modify their apps and want additional location-based
analysis and processing features.
