General: fields size, display size, simple_size and db_size relationships

Hi,
Seems that a general explanation for the relationship between the two
size specs (simple_size and db_size) and their relationship to aspects
like size of field when entered or displayed on screen could be of
interest to the SGW followers.

Specifically, can you control the size of input field on data entry
screen?
Also, can you place two fields on same line (if short enough) on data
entry or display screen?

No, this is always 100%.

The "display" view has all fields on the same line.
Fields on data entry pages (new, edit, edit as new) are always on
separate lines.
