There is no such word like discretely......

It has to be A in dis case..

There are words like discreteness.

Discreet means wisely and tactfully.....Act of coughing was done to announce the presence...that's why i think discreet is more apt

Discreet means Cautiously, , but discretely means distinctly, so ans should be discretely.

Yes, It should be- Discreetly.
Reason : Discretely is used for " Separately"
like for example- It is hard to classify the pebbles discretely on the basis of their color.

While, Discreetly is used where one shows carefulness in speech or action.
example- The case was presented discreetly by the lawyer, which helped him prove his innocence.

In the present case, she wanted to make her presence known i.e. a prudent effort.
Therefore, discreetly is the answer.

yes,
discreet (oxford meaning) is careful not to attract attention or give offence
here she coughed discreetly would mean she didn't want attention
and discrete would not fit with cough
