Katrina walks down an up-escalator and counts 150 steps. Priyanka
walks up the same escalator and counts 75 steps. Katrina takes three
times as many steps in a given time as Priyanka. How many steps are
visible on the escalator?

Let Priyanka and Katrina takes x steps and 3x steps per second respec. Let the escalator takes y steps per second. As per the question:-

150 - 150y/3x = 75 + 75y/x

Solving it we get y/x = 3/5

Hence total steps in the escalator are 150 - 50 . 3/5 = 120

The general method of solving these questions is to equate the total number of steps on the escalator by assuming the speed of the escalator.
