Foltin, William Robert "Bob" LATHAM William Robert "Bob" Foltin, of Latham, passed away July 6, 2015, at Albany Medical Center. Born and raised in Little Falls, N.Y., Bob graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. He obtained his master of science in industrial administration from Union College in Schenectady, where he also worked on his Ph.D. Bob was an adjunct professor at Union College. His professional career began at DuPont in Newburgh, after graduating from Cornell. GE Silicone Products in Waterford brought him to Latham. He then worked for the New York State Environmental Conservation Dept. until retirement. He was a long-time member of the Latham Elks 2192, and played softball on many local teams throughout his lifetime. An avid writer, Bob frequently read his poetry and sponsored other poets at venues around the Capital Region. Bob is survived by three daughters and seven grandchildren who invite all to a memorial service on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Loudonville, at 10 a.m., followed by a reception at Latham Elks Club. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Elks Lodge, 11 Elks Lane, Latham, NY, 12110, or to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 510 Albany Shaker Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211.

So sorry to hear this! I'll never forget Bob paying for everyone's tab at the Indian restaurant in Troy before our meetings, and then scraping all the left-overs into a paper bag to take home. R.I.P., Bob.

At least twice Howard had run into Bob at the Salvation Army store on Clinton Ave. in Albany. Both were contentedly ragged. It's an ethic it would behoove us all as humans to embrace!
I recall Bob describing his method of making homemade - wine? Of having to be mindful of when it would turn to vinegar.
He lived simply, though he had had the means to live like a rich man, a very very rich man. But no. Living low to the ground was just fine for him. He cared little for those who looked down their noses at him, those who judged him on the appearance of him and of his home. He was his own man, unabashed.
