The Omega Program was the result of years of effort by the paramilitary firm Shiro Psychic Research to develop a system intended to augment the Empire's armed forces[1], as an alternative to Japan's increasing dependence on high technology in its military affairs[2]. It was based in Shiro Sanitarium in Tokyo, and was led by Doctor Shinji Shimada, a prominent researcher in the field, famous for his controversial yet groundbreaking thesis of latent psionics and the next stage of human evolution[1].
Indigo children, according to a pseudoscientific New Age concept,[1][2][3][4] are children who are believed to possess special, unusual, and sometimes supernatural traits or abilities.[5] The idea is based on concepts developed in the 1970s by Nancy Ann Tappe,[6] who claimed to have been noticing indigo children beginning in the late 1960s.[7] Her ideas were further developed by Lee Carroll and Jan Tober. The concept of indigo children gained popular interest with the publication of a series of books in the late 1990s and the release of several films in the following decade. A variety of books, conferences, and related materials have been created surrounding belief in the idea of indigo children and their nature and abilities. The interpretations of these beliefs range from their being the next stage in human evolution, in some cases possessing paranormal abilities such as telepathy, to the belief that they are more empathetic and creative than their peers.
All incarnations of the show concerned the emergence of the next stage of human evolution (Homo novis) known colloquially as Tomorrow People. Born to human parents, an apparently normal child might at some point between childhood and late adolescence experience a process called 'breaking out' and develop special paranormal abilities. These abilities include psionic powers such as telepathy, telekinesis, and teleportation. However, their psychological make-up prevents them from intentionally killing others.
A Newtype (ニュータイプ, Nyūtaipu?) is a person who has reached a new stage of human evolution in the Gundam universe. The theory behind this minor but groundbreaking metamorphosis is: in order to adapt to life in space, the human body evolved with heightened mental awareness. As such, Newtypes tend to appear among Spacenoids, although not exclusively (Amuro Ray, arguably the most famous Newtype, was actually born on Earth although he is raised in space). Appearing in the Universal Century timeline (chronologically the first), they are also present in the After War timeline.
A similar type of human being called Coordinators exists in the Cosmic Era timeline of Gundam SEED, although their evolution is artificially obtained by genetic engineering. Coordinators' distinguished abilities are more physical as opposed to mental but they have a similar heightened spatial awareness like Newtypes. The series' director Mitsuo Fukuda identified some protagonists (like Mu La Flaga) as Newtypes, even though the term does not exist within the plot itself.
Various characters state that the exploitation of the Newtype is due to fear of them by the Oldtypes as they represent humanity's next step of evolution while the Oldtypes are merely relics of the past. A great example of this is the signature Gundam pilot of the metaverse, Amuro Ray. Although he is the hero of the One Year War-the first great Mobile Suit war-he barely climbs the ranks through his entire military career and it is implied that this is because of the government's mistrust in his loyalties (due to his Newtype status). Many believe this to be an allegory for the newer generations taking over the previous generation, with the confusion and conflict which comes from this. Well into the very late incarnations of the Universal Century timeline, Newtypes remain as rare an occurrence as they were during the One Year War, facilitating a curious cycle of weapons development, in which highly specialized Newtype-use weapons are developed and repeatedly phased out as fielding people capable of using such weapons in significant numbers remains consistently impossible.
The word Newtype first came into being when Zeon Zum Deikun, the founder of the space colony-based Principality of Zeon, created his philosophy: mankind was destined to leave the Earth for space, where they would evolve into a new stage of evolution, called the Newtype.
Freud's developmental theory on psychosexual development was among the first attempts to bring psychology under the same scientific structure and methodology of medicine. This unification was accomplished by first defining normative human sexual development. Freud organized psychosexual maturation into 5 distinct phases. Each stage symbolizes the concentration of the libido or instincts on a different area of the body (i.e., erogenous zones). In order to mature into a well-functioning adult, one must progress sequentially through each of the aforementioned psychosexual stages. When libidinal drives are repressed or unable to be appropriately discharged, the child is left wanting and unsatisfied. Freud identified this dissatisfaction as fixation. Fixation at any stage would produce anxiety, persisting into adulthood as neurosis. This dynamic formed the foundational bedrock for Freud's psychoanalytic sexual drive theory.[1]
We still have the ability to select who we mate with, and our choice is largely determined by cultural factors. For example, we value high intelligence, toned physique, large breasts, etc. If these desirable traits remain somewhat constant, it is possible that they will lead to human evolution. We will become smarter and more physically fit. Along these same lines, we already have the ability to monitor the fetus while it is still in the womb (noting desirable and undesirable traits alike). Individuals could decide to abort offspring with unwanted traits, or use genetic manipulation to ensure desired qualities. In both of these cases, traits that are culturally valuable are propagated.
The first phase in this process is the intra-psychic stage. This is when a person admits to himself or herself that they are dissatisfied with their relationship, and they spend a lot of time thinking about the reasons for this dissatisfaction and possible ways forward. This stage focuses on a person's internal thought process that occurs before confronting the partner. Before a person moves to the next stage, they reach a threshold of thinking 'I can't stand this anymore'.
If, up to this point, the couple generally kept their disagreements private, at the next phase they involve friends and relatives and make their distress public. This is the social phase of relationship breakdown. According to Duck, once the conflict reaches this stage, it is more difficult for a couple to mend their relationship: friends and family will take sides, intervene in the couple's relationship and offer advice, which makes reconciliation much more problematic. The threshold at this stage is 'I mean it'. The social phase usually leads to the dissolution of the relationship.
The opposing school of thought, maintained by academics like David Cohen and Robert Todd Carroll, is that parents label their children as indigo instead of seeking proper diagnosis for the out-of-the-ordinary behavior they're displaying. In Carroll's book, The Skeptic's Dictionary, he notes that, "One thesis of The Indigo Children [a guidebook for parents who believe their children to be indigo] seems to be that many children diagnosed as having ADD or ADHD represent 'a new kind of evolution of humanity'," adding, "One can understand why many parents would not want their child to be labeled as ADD or ADHD. The label implies imperfection."
Perhaps managing your emotions by ticking them off against an online checklist helps people justify why they didn't fit in at school, why they haven't been able to hold down a job or why they've found it hard to settle into new environments. And if auras and a slightly misplaced idea that they represent the next stage of human evolution helps people deal with those issues, then what's the harm in allowing them to do so?
Aside from their basic resemblance to humans in terms of overall shape, the outward appearance of a Dark One is quite strange. Often exploitation of other nations and peoples are being justified by equating culture with poverty. And poverty in turn is being employed as a justification for the cultural transformation of others. The human evolution is for all humans, and not for a specific religion or culture. The superiority claimed by some is of destructive arms and not culture. The expressions of economic fundamentalism are now being challenged by a religious fundamentalist match.
