I have a Dim. 8300 Computer. It is a burner because I have burned a lot of CD's using the CD-R. But I'm trying to see what type of DVD CD to you on this computer. The manual is to general It says if you have the Sonic Record Now you cannot use a DVD but I have the Ratio 6 on the computer.
Sorry to bother you so much about this little problem that I think I'm confused now. Okay you are saying that I cannot use a DVD-R for media and I take it for slides shows too. But if I wanted to backup some data on a DVD can I do that or what should i used. The other thing I'm thinking this is a 4 year computer just suppose we get a new computer will this work on a new computer. I have a Dell Inspiration 6000 which uses the DVD+RW. I have to get some of the data off that one too.
Hello - I've been reading the various threads and found one where a fellow back in Feb 2018 identified the optional BR Burner installed in his XPS 8930 as the LG BU40N. However, in my searches, I'm seeing a BU40N and a BU50N are available. They seem to have the same spec's but on Amazon, I'm seeing some reports that 4K discs are not compatible. I'm wondering if the BU50N is a newer drive that is shipping on the XPS 8930 now? I tried the LG site and they have the BU40N listed, but nothing on the BU50N. I tried calling their support and they are clueless. Does anyone know if the BU50N is a better, but still compatible drive? They are just a couple of dollars difference so I'd rather get the latest and greatest?
Thanks Tesla - Yeah, I can easily tell these are pretty flimsie drives, and frankly this entire single mini laptop slot almost made me forget about buying the XPS in the first place. How stupid. I've never had a machine that didn't have 2 full sided optical slots. While there is a lot to dislike about this generation of the XPS's, I got a real sweet deal on the last one at the local Costco. A few inexpensive upgrades will result in a decent machine for video editing.
That said, I already have a Pioneer burner in my old machine I wanted to transfer over, but I guess I got to get an external enclosure and use that remote if I want to copy drive to drive like I can do now. I just got to nail down which of these two to go with for the tiny slot. While we know they are **bleep**, I need to sort out which is the least stinky, lol.
1. With DVD, Dual-Layer burning never worked very good ... even with the best 5.25-inch drives and (expensive) DL blanks. Due to that history (and the fact the BD-DL blanks were expensive) I never really tried it for BD.
My XPS 8930 was supposed to come with a Blu-Ray burner, but it just came with just a regular DVD Writer. When I informed the place that I bought it from of this, they refunded me $50, which helped pay for the Mercury Pro Blu-Ray burner you suggested.
i bought my dell desktop in 2006. i have gone through 3 dvd-rw drives and in need of another. eventually the burned dvds have glitches during playback. the original plays fine. the burned ones skip, freeze or play with the audio going out intermittently for a few seconds. i dont understand why the drives start giving me problems. am i overuseing them?? what could be the cause??
the dvd recorded normally, while during playback on more then one different dvd players, the dvds would have one or 2 skips or freeze. on a couple of occasions the dvd video played normally but the audio would go mute for 4-8 seconds. i use sony dvd +r or sony dvd -r.

A couple of months ago I got an email from one of the companies I deal with and they mentioned a 4th Burner Pot. I had never heard of a 4th Burner Pot so I decided to look around a bit and find out more about it.
The 4th burner pot is a tea kettle, steamer, strainer, and boiling basket. There are measurements on the inside of the stainless steel pot which makes it great for lots of uses and it has a glass lid so you can see what is going on inside. A stainless steel basket is included with the pot for steaming, boiling, or blanching and it has pretty red silicone handles that stay cool(ish) to the touch.
