Anyoneelse having issues with the iPad mini's onscreen keyboard? I have noticed that, at times, the keyboard onscreen performance is lagging way behind of what is actually being typed! Plus there are times when going to type in a section doesn't register with the keyboard, therefore leaving it impossible to see what one is typing, because it is blocked from view by the keyboard! I literally have to move the keyboard up on the page to see what it is I am typing because the keyboard is not lifting up the page! There is also this wild black horizontal line that appears when scrolling on certain websites, for no known reason! It seems to happen a lot on Facebook's website, for instance!

Then reboot your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

I would try the reboot like Ralph suggested. The only reason that I am responding is that someone else posted this same issue yesterday about the Mini keyboard where the page didn't move up when typing. Hopefully the reboot will fix the problem.

That is a minor concern that I know how to resolve, but thank you for the responses... I am more concerned about the typing lagging way behind at times, and the black horizontal line that is appearing when scrolling at times... I think all these issues may be bug related! As for the keyboard not moving the page, yes... A simple reboot usually resolves this problem, but the lag time, for typing in certain apps or pages, definitely doesn't have any logic, so it has to be some kind of bug, because most of the time, the keyboard doesn't lag behind, and that black horizontal line definitely doesn't appear every time I scroll a web page... These issues only pop up at certain times and on certain pages, Facebook's book website being one of them! I have found that clearing one's history can sometimes resolve the situation, but not always!

Yes, like I said... That will resolve the situation, at times, but not always! Oh well, I guess it really is a non issue if it is a poorly coded web page! Lol Just wanted to see if anyone was having these same issues!

I am assuming the settings were transferred to my iPad Mini from my old iPad backup. People who continue to have this issue, check your blue tooth settings, as a Bluetooth keyboard will effect the on screen keyboard

Nyconsult, I just want to acknowledge that I have the same lag time issue when inputting via the keyboard on my ipad3. I also have characters which often won't register when first touched, esp the letter "a". I have been to the Genius Bar 3x, and also had the iPad replaced! The replacement iPad does the same thing!

When you start the machine, are you brought straight to the login window and asked for a password? Or do you have your account set to bypass the login window and log right in. If the former, I am not of aware of a method log in, or bypass the log in, without a keyboard.

Then in that case, I don't know of a solution. If you were to bypass login, you could enable on screen type assisting (type w/ your mouse, essentially). But bypassing login requires a keyboard, AFAIK. Best of luck.

If you have even a PC around you might be able to use its keyboard if it is USB or if there is a computer store (Mac or PC) you could buy a cheap USB keyboard. If your budget stretched further and there is an Apple store around you could buy an Apple Bluetooth keyboard which should auto-pair to the Mac.

The Accessibility Keyboard is an onscreen keyboard that lets you use your Mac without a physical keyboard. It provides advanced typing (such as typing suggestions) and navigation features that you can customize to make it easier to use your favorite apps.

Enter alternate characters: Click Option or Option-Shift, then click a character. Or click Option to highlight the dead keys (a dead key is a modifier key pressed with another key to enter a letter with a diacritical mark), click a dead key, then click a letter.

Simplify typing: In the top-right corner of the keyboard, click the Panel Options button , choose Typing, then choose to automatically insert and remove spaces or capitalize sentences (a checkmark indicates an option is on).

Show custom panels: Click the Custom button to display available custom panels created using the Panel Editor. To return to the Accessibility Keyboard, click the Home icon in the top-right corner of the custom panel.

In the top-right corner of the Accessibility Keyboard, click the Panel Options button , then choose options (a checkmark indicates that an option is on). For example, you can change the appearance of the keyboard to use dark text on a light background, fade the keyboard after a period of inactivity, or turn Dwell on or off.

I need to lock my work mac hundreds of times a week. Currently, the only way is to use the mouse to open the apple menu and use "lock screen" which is slow, fiddly and tedious, especially when you have already stood up to leave.

I cant use a mac keyboard (as apple dont have mechanical keys for professional typists, and the apple keybaords are horrible for those used to typing 60+ WPM on a full travel mechanical switched keyboard), and Apple prevent the use of the touch ID as it forces users to close the lid to use external monitors only (apple is missing the critically needed option to disable the internal display, just like on Windows).

Interestingly, I found a better solution, a product called "nearlock" which will lock the mac when your iphone is more than X meters away (I usually take my iphone with me when I move away from my mac). Sadly, free version doesn't work in background, but may be worth purchasing to save time. Maybe one day apple will buy them and offer this technology.

When I open the Chrome debug view and set the device to "iPad Mini" to simulate its screen size (and touch events), interacting with a text input causes the Windows on-screen keyboard to open.

I can only assume that Chrome "simulating" an iPad Mini is causing Windows to think there's a touchscreen. I've been using this feature for a few months now, and the keyboard opening only started happening recently. I may have simply flipped a switch in the settings (of Chrome or Windows) on accident. If that's the case, I'd like to know how to flip it back!

Chrome doesn't emulate the keyboards of the device profiles you pick. An image of a keyboard will show for certain ones, like the iPhone 5X, but it is non-functional and is just present to allow you to see how the various elements on the page respond to the keyboard. You can see my answer here for more details on viewing that. However, this is not the same keyboard you are seeing.

It looks as though there is something in Windows, which is triggering the on-screen keyboard. I'm not sure why it would still appear if you have it disabled, but you could try a couple of things, based on what I've found online:

I've just unboxed my Mac Mini, plugged it into the TV HDMI and turned it on. Screen gave me the apple symbol and then alternated between a screen showing a mouse and a keyboard, telling me to turn them on.

I turned both devices on, and it seemed to pick up the mouse (a pointer appeared on the screen, and an arrow, which I clicked), but it's not picking up the keyboard - I've switched the keyboard on and off, selected 'pairing' mode and generally scratched my backside for the past hour. I tried plugging the Bluetooth keyboard into the back of it with the USB charge cable which made no difference.

I flipped it off the HDMI input for a while back to TV, and I've just put it back and it says No Input, even though the light on the Mac is still on. Wiggling the mouse makes no difference - does it have a standby mode, and should I just press the power button on it?

Thanks - switched it off that way. I think the problem is that the keyboard isn't working properly, as I can't get it to pair with my phone or ipad either, so I'll go out and pick up a basic wired keyboard today and see if that solves the problem. Seems daft that you can't get beyond this screen though - I'd have thought that you could still get the mac working without a keyboard, as long as there's a mouse, perhaps with an on-screen keyboard or something like that. Never mind, I'll try again later. Thanks for the advice!

I want to be able to use the keyboard + Trackpad of my MacBook Pro for my MacBook and my Mac mini. I also want to display the Mac mini output on one of my two monitors (not on the built-in MacBook Pro display).

Synergy is amazing! You can check it out at -foss.org/ it's pretty great software! I use it in my office to use one Keyboard and Mouse for a bunch of machines I have. Even works between OSX, Linux and PCs.

I have a similar use case where I need to work concurrently on a MacBook Pro and a Mac mini. I like to have the convenience of using the MacBook Pro's built-in keyboard to control both the MacBook as well as the Mac mini. I leverage Screen Sharing feature built into macOS. Here's how can set it up:

Now, on your MacBook Pro, under Network, you should be able to locate the Mac mini with the name set for Computer Name: as shown above. Click on Share Screen.. and you should be able to see you Mac mini's screen in a window.

Move the window to one of the external monitors and make it go full screen. This way, you can have a seamless experience switching between your MacBook and Mac mini while using a single keyboard and Trackpad.

Dell even have or had power bank especially for Dell latitude while Fujitsu have the batt & DVD module so you can swap the dvd for batt which literally means you can work without AC power indefinitely if you have enough batt modules.

I run an AZIO Cascade slim 75% mechanical keyboard, a Logitech MX510 mouse, and an ARZOPA 15.6" Portable monitor. That will all fit in a back pack easily. I got sick of moving everything to my desk to connect to my KVM when I just needed quick access.
