Hello All,

I seem to be running into a few issues when trying to install SIMP from a iso built from the tarballs, have not tried using rake.

The download of the CentOS iso seems to work fine which is what I am using now for testing, and configuration until I can get the RHEL version working.

Issues installing SIMP 5.2.0-0 with RHEL 7.2

Steps

1. Download RHEL 7.2 dvd iso

2. Download SIMP-DVD-RHEL-5.2.0-0 tarball.

3. Follow make iso instructions here: https://simp-doc.readthedocs.io/en/simp-5.1.x/user_guide/FAQs/DVD_Build.html

Boot VM on kvm, using created SIMP ISO.

Typing simp starts the kickstart process, after the process begins to install the packages it will fail because it fails to find the "simp" package.

I have traced through the auto.cfg in the kickstart and I see that anaconda is copying repodetect.sh and diskdetect.sh and then running the chmod +X however the lines below that it looks like it tries to run facter after chroot into the sysimage.  '

Not to sure why this is failing and would appreciate any help in figuring this out.

Thanks,

Hi Douglas,

Could you please try the 5.2.1 release that was posted yesterday?

That one should cleanly build against RHEL and there were specifically a couple of RHEL issues that were fixed in that release.

Testing against RHEL is unfortunately more complicated than it should be due to getting all of the packages in the right place and updated from all of the upstream repositories.

Thanks,

Trevor

Thanks for the quick response.  (Sent the original reply to wrong addresss)

I see the SIMP-DVD-CentOS-5.2.1-0.tar.gz

Moving forward will be just using the CENTOS tarballs for RHEL isos also?

Thanks,

You can use them for the RHEL ISOs with no issue if I remember correctly.

I've done a clean build on AWS several times by spinning up a RHEL box so that may also be another avenue.

Thanks,

Trevor

So interestingly I have used the older RHEL 6 / SIMP 4 tarballs and have the same results.

Looking into the kickstart anaconda logs it looks like the ks is failing to create the repodata, the sysimage is mounting correcting but some of the steps are failing.  Same place it fails on RHEL 7.

I will try building the iso with rake, I have a feeling we are missing a step from the rake ISO build  that isn't reflected in the tarball.

Cheers,
