You may be using the old timeline from simile.mit.edu . Make sure you
are using simile-widgets.org instead.

Martin,

I see that you're hosting the timeline files locally, and they still load fine. But those files also depend upon simile-ajax-api.js. When your timeline loads, it goes looking for that file at http://static.simile.mit.edu/ajax/api-2.2.0/simile-ajax-api.js. That address is now no longer valid. Try loading the simile-ajax-api explicitly in a script tag from this address: http://api.simile-widgets.org/ajax/2.2.2/simile-ajax-api.js

Hello David,

There appears to be quite a few users of the timeline software (and exhibit) who were loading their api files from the server at static.simile.mit.edu. This host still responds, but the api files are no longer at their respective locations, like the simile-ajax files at static.simile.mit.edu. These were, at one time, the canonical locations for the timeline and exhibit software hosted by MIT.

from the header of exhibit-api.js:
/*==================================================
 *  Simile Exhibit API
 *
 * Include Exhibit in your HTML file as follows:
 *    <script src="http://static.simile.mit.edu/exhibit/api-2.0/exhibit-api.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
 *
 *==================================================
 */

These urls are now no longer valid. Perhaps you can arrange for any requests to those addresses to be redirected to the new canonical location at http://api.simile-widgets.org/ ?

Dear Jon,

David and you were right, I was using the obsolete links to the MIT. I changed it in the source code, unfortunately without getting lucky. Then i noticed on my test server that after the change everything was working in Drupal 7 (i used 6), so I now take this opportunity to upgrade the whole site. (I've been wanting to do that for a while.)
Thank you for your help!
Martin

Hi Jon,

We've configured the server hosting static.simile.mit.edu to serve up the same files as api.simile-widgets.org for the time being to smooth over this problem.

In the future, we'll look at sending an HTTP 301 (Moved Permanently) response instead, which is more semantically appropriate.

Regards,

Ted
