spurious clicks on the timeline

Hi

I have been working with Timeline for a while now, and find it extremely useful. I have modified it, so I no longer need the showBubble functionality, and instead show a modal overlay on click of an event.

However, if I click the timeline by mistake at a blank place (which does not have any event rendered), the timeline gets shifted automatically towards the center vertically, which is a little annoying. I have a vertically tall timeline (~8000px), does that have anything to do with this?

I basically need a way to turn off click events fired from clicking at places which don't have any event. 
Would really appreciate any pointers. Thanks in advance!
