vertically aligned annotations

hello,

i wonder if anyone out there has some idea as to how i could proceed
with this: i have a need for an "annotations" feature, such that an
event (durationEvent=false, having along with some text, a start date,
and a track number) would be painted at the specified start time, as a
straight line going vertically, starting at the specified track number
and ending in the annotations "track" where its text would be
rendered. That way, you could provide some visual annotations
associated with an event tape.

any thoughts, would greatly be appreciated.

Attached is an image of what I'm talking about.  The vertically rendered event starts in one track and ends in another, designated for annotations; I suppose, if that's not possible, I can live with the vertical line ending all the way at the bottom of band where the timescale is.  Appreciate any help/ideas.
