Swabbie without Spinnaker

In Netflix's description of services they state that "Swabbie is a new standalone service that will replace the functionality provided by Janitor Monkey.". From everything I've read it seems that in order to run Swabbie properly Spinnaker must be configured as well.
My question is it possible to run/use Swabbie without using/configuring spinnaker? Does anyone have any experience with this?
