A new ServInfo version (1.31) was released today, that will allow you to
take ServInfo with you in the cockpit when you fly online!

Available from the ServInfo site:
http://avsim.com/hangar/utils/servinfo/

Hope you find it useful,
Michael Frantzeskakis

New in this version:
--------------------

ServInfo gauge:
A ServInfo gauge is introduced that can be installed on any aircraft's panel
(an installation program is also provided).
The gauge will list ATC within range and selected ATC positions and it will
also allow you to easily switch to ATC RW channels and COM1 frequencies

Other:
At flight details and ICAO finder windows the airline logos act as
hyperlinks to virtual airlines websites (thanks to Andres Falcon and the
LanVirtual staff that compiled this info for me)
Short TAF reports (up to 12 hrs) can also be retrieved from NOAA
Pilots logged time is shown at Flight Details window
Other minor changes and the usual database updating

Michael,

Many thanks for the update, and I thought you had gone about as far as you
could with it :-)

Although I doubt I will use the gauge (I use 2 PCs for on-line flying) I
certainly look forward to the other enhancements.

ServerInfo has been a 'must have' ever since you released it, forever
grateful.

Anyone know of docs related to the strengths and shortcomings of the
various flight sims? Looking at Ian's screenshots, they look pretty
detailed and cool, just thought I'd investigate the other areas (scenery,
sounds, guages, etc) before trying them.

Jeff,

The ServInfo gauge has been tested on the DreamFleet 737 and it works. I
don't know what your problem is, but here are two possible causes and
solutions:

1. (the obvious) you have not enabled the gauge communication from Servinfo
"Options->Gauge settings" menu

2. On some more complex panels like DF, the PSS airbus and PIC the ServInfo
toggle button might not display. It is there (if you position the cursor at
it's location it will be turned to a "handpoint" and if you press the
display gauge will show - and the green/yellow indicators will show when
active) but it might be obstructed being on a lower layer. Usually turning
on and off (or off and on and off) the panel lights (pressing "L") will
bring the toggle gauge again on top. I also think that it will not show at
all on Bill Grabowski's excellent ERJ145 panel when the floodlight is on.

I suppose Vulcan meant that he does not need the gauge since he already has
all the detailed display on his second PC.
But, just as a reminder, it IS possible to have the ServInfo gauge working
on a LAN/WideFS configuration by selecting the appropriate option from the
ServInfo "Options->Gauge Settings" menu.

Hi there

There is an option in Servinfo that you can use it in a LAN through the
WideFs.
In other words you can have the gauge in your plane while you have Servinfo
running in another PC through the network.
It works excellent ( you have all the goods of the gauge) and the same time
you dont give a hard time in the PC that already running the MSFS.

Have fun

First of all, what you are producing is really great stuff - perhaps the
best and most useful flightsim addon for me at all. I already tested the new
gauge and Servinfo yesterday evening (using a 2 PC setup with WideServer
over IPX) and it worked great so far. I have a few additional questions:

1) Is it correct that tuning in a new controller via the gauge changes the
FS/SB frequency and the Roger Wilco channel, but doesn´t call the
controllers ATIS via Squawkbox. Is this by design, can this be changed in
future?

2) If 1) is not possible, is there a chance to add a function to the gauge
to display the Controller´s ATIS? Sometimes (especially for Approach) we
need the ATIS identifier to make sure we have the latest info.

3) Is it possible to select the ATC station in the gauge window by
double-clicking (like it is done in the SB ATC list) ???

Thanks for answering, and also thanks for that marvelous software. Keep up
the good work!!!

Martin,

Thanks for your kind words.
Trying to answer all three questions at once :

The ServInfo gauge, by design, is NOT intended to be a full replacement of
the SquawkBox ATC list window.
It's main purpose is to easily provide additional useful information, i.e.
the name of the controller, if he/she is on voice, presence of other
selected ATC positions besides those in range (e.g. at destination), a
visual indication of when an ATC position comes in range, or a selected one
comes online etc.

Switching frequency and voice is something that was possible to add and it
is handy, BUT it must be used understanding it's limitations:
The ServInfo data come from the network every 2 minutes and adding to that
the reload interval you set in ServInfo they might not be absolutely current
at any time. Especially the ATIS info (which also determines the voice
channel) is updated every 30 minutes at each position. So the SB ATC list
box, being always current (except in case of large lag) will always be the
most accurate way for ATC switching and ATIS retrieval and even if using the
ServInfo gauge you should crosscheck it from time to time.

As Michael pointed out Don, I was rferring to not using the gauge in the
cockpit because I have ServerInfo running on the none FS PC and can access
SI's data from that PC and tune COM1 & RW from there. This way I have less
'extras' running on the FS PC so hopefully it will run FS
better...hopefully :-)

Michael,

Ran into a bit of a problem with the ATIS being updated every 30 minutes.... I tried contacting a voice controller with the Servinfo gauge and it turned out he had just changed to another IP address for RW... even after I refreshed the download from the gauge and from Servinfo, the ATIS was still reporting the old IP address... finally had to go to SB and pull the ATIS from the ATC directory...

Any chance that ATIS interval can be reduced, without too much bandwidth?

This is not up to me, the ATIS refresh interval is defined by the network
administrators and cannot be altered from ServInfo. The only thing you can
do from ServInfo is to request an update of an individual position's ATIS
from the ATC details window IF this ATIS is older than 20'. Also the ATIS
details window will state how long ago the ATIS was retrieved. For ATC
positions within range you can also display the ATIS details window from the
right-clicking activated menu of the tray icon ("ATC facilities within
range" menu item).

Michael,

I noted today that in this new version of ServInfo, the RW Servers page do
not seem to work. There is no way that I can see to set the RW server, so
ServInfo is unable to pull any details about who is on any RW Channel. Is
this just something that I'm missing?

That's the problem, my drop down list is empty and I have no way to select

what file is now missing or corrupt?

Craig,

Yesterday there has been a change in the location of one of the VATSIM files
that ServInfo needs to read.
There is a bug in the part of the ServInfo code that takes care of this
change that will result in an I/O error message when you try to download
data. After this error displays, if you press the VATSIM button again data
will be loaded OK but the RW list will be empty.
If you exit ServInfo and restart it, then everything should be fine.

In case you still have problems, open the servinfo.ini file and change the
line:
VATSIM Servers Locator Url=http://europe-s.areacom.it/data
to:
VATSIM Servers Locator Url=http://usa-s1.vatsim.net/data
