Hello All,
We understand that a new application has been released for pilots to fly
online. While this program looks very promising, it has not been tested on
the VATSIM network by any of the VATSIM network gurus. We need to look at
this and make sure it is network friendly and look at several other aspects
of it including voice integration, which it does not have at this time.
People using this program would have to go back to RogerWilco. I don't think
any of you want to do that. The code also needs to be verified that it does
nothing bad your computer or VATSIM's servers, and that your account
information is secure and not transmitted to any third parties.
As I said earlier this software looks promising and the developers have made
great progress. We only wish they had spoken with VATSIM first before
releasing it to the public. It would have made their package much more
useable with the VATSIM network.
In addition, this software appears to be asking for money in the form of
donations through PayPal. This one act puts VATSIM in jeopardy with it's
other software license agreements and could lead to difficulties with other
applications VATSIM uses.
The developers are getting in contact with VATSIM and we hope to have this
issue settled shortly. We ask that you use restraint and not use the new
program on VATSIM until you here an official announcement from VATSIM. This
is for the safety of your computer system and the VATSIM network. We need to
know exactly what this program does before we let it loose on the network.
We say this from past experience, there have been programs released that
actually sent your ID and password to a third party. So please, let us look
at this first and ensure that the program performs as the specifications
state on the developer's web page. We are sure that all of you will abide by
the User Agreement and the Code of Conduct you agreed to when joining
VATSIM.
