Weird display of FSnav

I've just loaded FSnav onto my new, faster computer but when I open it in
FS9 the display is erratic. Sometimes the map area is all black with a
barely discernible plane, sometimes the map is ok but the surrounding window
is not there and so on. Clicking in the window and changing from map to fms
view and back again corrects the problem but what is happening here and how
do I fix it?
