It's always fascinating to keep a close eye on the telecom market, it
is a life line of sorts for any business.
Ericsson (a very close friend of the SIME house) and Nokia have
pioneered a lot of
innovations in the intersection between telecom media and
entertainment of late and sitting in Scandinavia, telecom always is
interesting with these giant pillars being close to home.
Today, NTT Docomo came out with the announcement that they plan to
roll out Long Term Evolution and 4G Networks that promise speeds of
upto 100MB/s to 1GB/s to the hand set users in Japan. That technically
means we can stream movies, play multi player games without any lag
and the experience promises to be fantastic.
Questions regarding adoption and price still remain though, and also
if
NTT will be the driver of this movement or will it be a repeat of its
3G
fiasco of being the first in the market but not in the adoption?
