Hello, everyone!
The Simbang Gabi is almost here!
And of course, just sharing a few things including this great post practice photo of our St. Joseph's Simbang Gabi Choir...which is quite a group of really great and talented folks...thank you, Kassey, for leading the way! (folks in this thread who are in choir, kindly share the photo...)
A couple more updates:
- The Morales', Josie and Roger, will provide our "transition" parol for the Commissioning mass this Saturday. It will also be the stand-in parol if our "blue parol" is still 'out in the universe'...It's all good! We have a commissioned parol ready to be processed-in on Sunday and that's what's important;
- As you can see, the choir is ready to go! Meeting time is at 10am Sunday at the choir area in church.
- Caprice has agreed to open the social hall as early as 7am Sunday. Preparation cannot be done that Saturday since there is an occasion already occupying the space. So, Sunday morning, at about 730am I and a couple of volunteers will start setting up the tables and chairs in the hall.
We should have ample time before 10am to set up the table and hall decor. Our PA system is ready to be turned on, thanks to Joe Bocek!
- Food prep folks have been assigned and set. However, feel free to bring in additional potluck items, if you want.
- We have the two readers: Josie and Gloria's daughter. (Steve, I hope Will was able to get to you in requesting to add our Fil-Am detainee in the Prayers for the Faithful. He was about to be snucked into a risky 20+-hour flight but he was not allowed to fly because community advocates were successful in arguing for his safety. He has been undergoing some challenges medically, but continues to be ignored by the ICE authorities and the Philippine consulate to consider hospitalization...)

I guess this is about it unless there is anything else I've forgotten. We'll see everyone this Sunday!! While others will be meeting up at St. James this Saturday....
Thanks again everyone!
Blessings,
Roger

A most moving presentation…thank you, Caprice!…just one: there are slides that have more written on it so that if it can be paused a bit longer than others…if that’s even possible…but, overall…you captured the spirit…and this can be shown too to the students to promote the Parol workshop…maraming Salamat on behalf of all of us! Blessings!

Hello Fantastic Simbang Gabi Team!

I created the attached reel to showcase your terrific event in December. Before sharing it with the Parish Family, I’d love your feedback to make sure everything looks accurate.

My plan is to share in our bulletin enewsletters, on our social media, and again use it later this year to advertise for 2026 Simbang Gabi My goal is to create excitement and show how special this tradition is, so no one wants to miss it next year!

I think it always good to share special liturgies and events that make us unique. Plus, Simbang Gabi is truly unique as it brought together both communities long before Partners in the Gospel did! This is a roadmap for our Parish Family to follow!

Please let me know your thoughts,

Thank you for your presence and dedication to our Parish Family. We are truly blessed by your hard work and commitment!

Good morning, Caprice!
This is beautiful…I’m sure I share the feelings of those who read this…allow us to discuss this and get a collective response…definitely a commitment of the parish family in expressing being together…is there a time you’d like us to get back to you? A week? A month?
Thank you for all this!
Until then,
Blessings!

Hello to our hard-working Simbang Gabi Crew!

I’m working on creating a new parish family banner that will be an outward sign to communities to feel included and welcomed into our parish family. This includes symbols of different communities around our parish family. I would love to include a symbol that might speak to our Filipino Community. I chose a Parol, but it’s just a generic one, I could certainly do something different if you have thoughts on that. Deacon Steve asked me to reach out to community members and see if that resonates with you or get your thoughts and feedback on what might resonate more.

Of course, one of the challenges with this type of promotion is that you can never include absolutely everyone, but I will do my best to include as many communities as possible. Please take a moment to review and send me thoughts you might have about this promotion.

And even if your feedback is “meh, I don’t care about this right now” I would still love to hear from you!

Thank you so much!

Kamusta sa lahat!
I thought I'd start the conversation minus Caprice and Steve for now...about the Parish family banner representing our Filipino Simbang Gabi sector...in her email, she attached a draft of what the banner will look like and she added the traditional parol...
Any thoughts?
I suppose for now, our presence in the community is through our annual Christmas Simbang Gabi...and the traditional parol...how do you all feel about that? Maybe we can make it more colorful?
Be interested what folks think...and then we can send our collective take...
Salamat!
Roger

Thanks Kuya for asking the group for our thoughts on this!  I like that we’re being included in the family banner, and that Caprice is also asking for input.  Somehow I didn’t see the banner graphic - could you please paste it into the thread? Thanks and happy Friday to all!

Best, Dave

Thanks Roger, I see the banner.  It feels like a more colorful parole or image could represent our group better?   Not sure yet what that might be.  Best, Dave

Yeah, maybe we can combine your church color and ours…
You have one? I think ours is light blue?

I think the parol is a good symbol and agree a more colorful or ornate graphic would be good.

I just saw in the bulletin the reconfigured Parish logo and it has the four colors of the four parishes ( St. Teresa, St. Joseph, St. Patrick and St. Mary). The parol can have four and then make the fifth point of the start just plain white? There's the parol with the ring around the star too...like the star is inside a circle and then the buntings below...

Hi Roger,

Thanks for reaching out to our group about the parol in the banner. When I saw it for the first time, I thought the same thing: make it more colorful and maybe slightly bigger. But after looking at the banner again, I think the yellow color gives it a nice contrast. If you put more colors, it might detract from the star shape. My suggestion is to make it slightly bigger, if possible.  That’s my thought.

I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the sun.

Peace,

Josie

With that said, I’ll be happy with whatever everyone decides. I’m thankful that our SG group is being recognized and included.

Peace,

Josie

Thank you, Josie!
So, your suggestion is to not anymore add color but to just make it slightly bigger than the one already suggested by Caprice.

I don’t know if she can make the star bigger, but I think the two tails should be longer and more proportionate to the star itself, but Caprice probably had to crop them to fit it into the space? But yes, I think keep it yellow, make the tails longer, and put a little more space between the hand and the Star. There are many colors in the other symbols already -  but that’s just me. 😁

Peace,

Josie

Greetings everyone!
I just want to start summarizing what we have been able to share regarding the banner that Caprice has asked us to mull over.
So far, these are the main points I've gathered so far:
- Make the parol slightly bit bigger
- Add color or, a bit more ornate
- Maybe the color yellow, to add a bit of contrast
- too many colors might be distracting
- make the tails a bit longer and proportional to the size of the star
Comments and suggestions are still open and Caprice would like to have this by tomorrow. You get one last shot tonight or tomorrow morning! LOL...
In the meantime, I hope everyone's keeping well and safe...
Until then...blessings!
Roger
